Earlier: A 19-year-old man who went into cardiac arrest after apparently receiving a snakebite at a North Austin parking lot on Tuesday is dead, a spokesman with Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services confirmed.
About 9:37 p.m., medics found the man in a car in the parking lot of Lowes Home Improvement at 13000 North Interstate 35 with puncture wounds on his wrists. Medics found several containers in his car, including one holding a live snake, officials said.

This should provide some good target practice for the cops.

It strikes me as seriously dumb to keep a venomous snake. I like snakes as much as the next person and have had them for pets (boa, rat snake, king snake), but keeping one that can kill you if you make one mistake? Not a good idea.

At least it is just Austin...
Was it female? Some snakes can reproduce many times from one “episode”.

We had a cobra get loose in our area. They had teams of people trying to find this snake. They never found it. I doubt they find this one either.

Almost everyone knows that you should never play with your snake while sitting in your car at a Lowes parking lot,

I’d put off any home improvement projects if I lived there. I’ve seen cobras in the wild and they are shy but very hard yo see near rice pads or in the forest. People working in rice paddies are of two minds about them, they are scared but the snakes keep the rat population down.
