Whoa, this poll strains my credulity. If this is true, that puts the lie to all the conventional wisdom about the hispanic vote.

“Conventional wisdom” about the Hispanic vote (a very amorphous term, it might be added) just does not take into account that it was simply CONCEDED to the Democrats, without debate, without any real rationale for that assumption.

Many people of various districts have never voted for a Republican, simply because they have never SEEN a Republican, or understood that it is a possible alternative to the same grinding conformity that has made their lives, while tolerable, far less than those lives could have been. Denial of opportunity is tantamount to a life of servitude, and no less a form of slavery than what was institutionalized for centuries in so many parts of the world, and still exists today, under the various tyrannies that hold sway in what we know as “third-world” countries.

Along comes The Donald, Trumping just about every hand of cards that has been dealt repeatedly to people who never knew, or hoped, they could have a crack at making a serious bid in the game.

This could be their quantum leap out of the drab existence they and all their ancestors have known, sometimes for decades if not centuries.

Trump is saying what he believes.

That stands a (lot) of people on his side. Quite a lot.

I firmly support him. 100%.

(I’m not Hispanic, but I have lived overseas for several years, and think I am open-minded in things)

Trump is standing up.

That seems simple, but nobody else gets it.

Yepper - seen a number of news sites with many Latinos expressing support for him.

What is the conventional wisdom regarding Hispanics?

Do you refer to the myth that Hispanics are natural conservatives/Republicans, who would flock to the party if not for ‘harsh anti-immigrant rhetoric’ of people like Trump?

Or is it the truth, that most Hispanics favor bigger government and other leftist policies, and are therefore natural democrats.

I agree this poll is hard to buy, unless it’s a poll of Republicans, and therefore one would expect Republican Hispanics to be more conservative than Hispanics overall. There is a sizable chunk of Hispanics who really are conservative and don’t need to be pandered too. But we should be under no illusions about the size of that group; 20-30% max.
