The California Legislative Black Caucus has joined the nascent campaign to rename the small coastal community of Fort Bragg in Mendocino County.
In a letter Thursday, eight members of the caucus urged Mayor Dave Turner to engage your community in a serious re-examination of the historical implications of your citys name and come to the conclusion that now is the time to end your ties to such a disgraced and treasonous figure in our nations history.

General Braxton Bragg should have never lost at Lookout Mountain , he should have held Chattanooga . After Chickamauga he should have driven home all the way to Kentucky . Should , woulda , coulda....can we have a do over?
The same line of “reasoning” applies to both Fort Braggs. Think of this as a test case for the other.
Actually I have lived in Fort Bragg for 40 years, and although the politics are liberal, except for periods of times around elections it really doesn't affect most of the conservatives who live here.
The area is absolutely beautiful and I'm fortunate enough to live and run a business that's right on the cliff over looking the Pacific Ocean.
Maybe Black California law makers should accomplish something worth naming for themselves.
The connection to Braxton Bragg is almost accidental. It's not like he fought a battle there.
The town could always keep the name and say it was from another person named Bragg (please nobody English, though, as both famous English Braggs are wankers).
