Rumors of a drive-by shooting have been swirling around Spring Hill over the weekend after gun shots that were fired on Sandhill Avenue on July 17, 2015. Details have finally been released by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and it turns out the homeowner on Sand Hill actually fired the shots after his daughter’s ex-boyfriend.
Throughout the day on Friday Deontray Jackson texted threatening messages to his ex-girlfriend, who is also pregnant. Jackson’s arrest affidavit for an aggravated stalking charge lists a number of disturbing messages including “I will ruin your life and that’s on God,” “I gonna smash y’all believe that,” “No more threats see you very soon I promise,” “I literally have nothing to live for so I’m coming all out tell your daddy to pull his gun out because I’m not doing no fight it at all,” and “I promise you these are not threats I am beyond mad beyond hurt and I literally do not care no more and I’m not going to yell at all because I’m definitely going to make the police shoot me when they see me there and I guarantee you that.”
That evening Deputies were dispatched to a house on Sand Hill Avenue and made contact with the homeowner, Joseph Marty, who advised that his daughter’s ex-boyfriend, Deontray Jackson, and a second male (later identified as David Pepe) arrived at the house while Joseph was standing in the driveway. Joseph said he was shoved from behind causing his head to strike the metal frame of the door jamb of the vehicle and lose his balance. Joseph said that as he was falling he saw Deontray standing with a firearm pointed at him so he retrieved a .40 caliber semiautomatic pistol from his rear pocket and pointed his firearm at Deontray. Deontray ran and entered the parked vehicle and pointed the gun at Joseph again. Joseph fired six rounds which all struck the passenger side of the vehicle.
Contact was made with David Pepe who was confirmed he had given Deontray a ride to the Sand Hill Avenue house. David’s statement indicated that he never left the driver’s seat of the car but that while Deontray was removing baby diapers, clothing, and equipment from the rear seat of the vehicle and placing it in the driveway Joseph Marty exited the residence and began firing at his vehicle so they fled the area. Contact was later made with Deontray Jackson who admitted to sending the threatening text messages and confirmed that he responded to the residence with David. Deontray advised that he did have a BB gun, which was not loaded and didn’t have an aerosol/propellant canister, but it was left in the vehicle while he was unloading baby supplies from the car at the Marty residence. Deontray says he was standing near the vehicle when Joseph Marty began firing rounds at him and David Pepe unprovoked.
During the questioning Deontray Jackson requested the presence of an attorney and the interview was concluded. Deontray Jackson was charged with one count of Aggravated Stalking with Credible Threat. A no bond status was set due to the domestic nature of the crime. He was also charged with possession of cocaine which was found in the vehicle he was located in during a traffic stop.
Hernando Daily News has requested some additional information from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office as to whether the investigation is concluded and if anyone is facing additional charges resulting from this incident. We will update the article as soon as we hear back.
