To honor service members killed in Chattanooga, President Obama orders flags be flown at half-staff at White House and other federal sites until sunset July 25.
(CNN)The White House and U.S. Capitol both lowered flags to half staff by Tuesday afternoon, after they were out of sync Tuesday in their tributes to the five U.S. service members who were slain by a gunman in Chattanooga last week.
House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky announced Tuesday that flags at the Capitol would be lowered to half-staff in honor of the victims.
"Out of respect for their courageous service and sacrifice to our nation, flags at the U.S. Capitol are being lowered to half-staff," Boehner said in a statement.
But at the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue, the flags at the White House noticeably remained at full-staff. Aides to the president have repeatedly declined to discuss whether the flags at the White House would be similarly lowered. Boehner's office said Tuesday that they had alerted the White House of their plans.
"I don't have more information about the status of the flag over the White House," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters Monday. Earnest had nearly the same response for reporters Tuesday.

Obama is scheduled to speak ... that played a huge role in his decision ... no question. That aside it probably wouldn't have happened ... his name is Barack Hussein Obama so you know where his sympathies are rooted.
I noticed that several business and numerous private houses lowered their flags shortly after the attack. They should have been lowed by the day after the attack.

Sacrifice to our nation? They were not allowed to be armed to fight a war with Muslims - they were defenseless murder victims, thanks to both sides allowing just anyone here.

Fox put this issue front and center from what I know, I think the mother of Wells was on Hannity last night and SH asked her if the flags were being flown half-mast and after all, the WH was shown in White House colors and they had this announcement for Eid holiday the other day.

Emperor O’Venal considers lowering the flag to be a minor thing, yet it takes a week to do this. It costs the Emperor nothing to lower the flags, but it satisfies the plebes, keeps them yet again, away from the White Hut with their torches, pitchforks, tar and feathers for another day. Bingo. And coming within 50 yds of any serviceman became a bit too unnerving. Can’t ALWAYS be surrounded by over 50 SS agents as he was when in NY with his ‘daughters’.
