First on CNN: Billionaire brothers give Cruz super PAC $15 million
CNN ^ | Sat July 25, 2015 | Theodore Schleifer

Posted on 07/25/2015 9:42:23 AM PDT by Isara

Two low-profile Texas brothers have donated $15 million to support Sen. Ted Cruz, a record-setting contribution that amounts to the largest known donation so far in the 2016 presidential campaign.

Farris and Dan Wilks, billionaires who made their fortunes in the West Texas fracking boom, have given $15 million of the $38 million that the pro-Cruz super PAC, Keep the Promise, will disclose in election filings next week, according to sources outside the super PAC with knowledge of the giving.

The siblings earned their riches with the sale of their company Frac Tech for $3.5 billion in 2011, and since then have shuffled large contributions to the leading social conservative nonprofit groups that aren't required to reveal their donors. But they will no longer be able to avoid detection after giving a historically large and early donation that now make the brothers two of America's most prominent political donors.

"Our country was founded on the idea that our rights come from the Creator, not the government. I'm afraid we're losing that," Farris Wilks, a 63-year-old pastor in the small town of Cisco, said in a statement to CNN. "Unless we elect a principled conservative leader ready to stand up for our values, we'll look back on what once was the land of opportunity and pass on a less prosperous nation to our children and grandchildren. That's why we need Ted Cruz."

---

Together, their donations give Cruz and his allies more money than any other Republican except Jeb Bush, a surprising achievement for a firebrand senator more embraced at a Tea Party rally than at a black-tie business gala.

---

Now, though, they are prepared to step right into the middle of a potentially nasty Republican nomination fight that could cost hundreds of millions of dollars....

heh heh

I sympathize.

Been covered at Townhall too.

Walker’s support has been very Wisconsin-centered, with the Menard’s heir, and the woman with the roofing fortune, Diane Hendricks, along with Adelson and Koch brothers.

For several years now a group of liberals posting on FR has told many people that unless we elect GOP liberals, we hate our country and love Obama. They also told us that principles were the problem not the solution, that Mitt, Mitch and Jonbon were conservative enough and a lot more pure idiocy.

They go out of their way yo stir crap and convince people to ultimately vote GOP. The end result is a split vote and a Democrat winning or a liberal Republican winning.

Unfortunately, if he doesn’t move up in the polls soon, he may not make the debates.

But Cruz is not an one issue candidate. Trump is good at bringing attention to one or two issues, but Cruz can do it all.

I’m thankful that there are a few conservative billionaires but I still believe that the Citizens United case was a travesty.

If you are a conservative, I don't think you truly understand Citizens United. I'm sure you don't actually believe that the federal government should be able to fine or imprison groups of people for engaging in political speech, right? That is all Citizens United was about.... the leftwing hates it because they want to be the ONLY ones contributing in large groups made up of unions. Citizens United is simply a conservative non-profit organization that the left wanted the federal government to gag. The Supreme Court said no.

The criteria referred to everywhere are just for the first debate.

By this time in the last cycle, there had already been two debates. Anyone really remember now who was in or who was out, or who got the edge up?

Money in the bank counts when votes are cast, and the first ones are in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada.

Opinion polls about a Fox News show don’t really matter if a candidate already has money, as Jeb well knows.

*********

I think he’ll make the Fox debate but we have to await the final polls which have a
cut off in 10 days or so to get the final results. But Cruz is in 7th place and
I don’t see him getting knocked down to 11th. JMO.

7th...Cruz = 5.4%
8th...Christie = 2.8%
9th...Kasich = 1.8%
10th..Perry = 1.8%
11th..Fiorina tied @ 1.4%
11th..Santorum tied @ 1.4%

I'm not a Cruz supporter. But I said at the beginning that Texas donors alone could and probably would finance him.

There's a whole lot of political money in Texas.

I believe that only individual citizens should have input to elections. Citizens United gives corporations greater voice than citizens, even ones that are foreign owned. No large group shoul be able to drown out the. Voice of the citizens. Look at the results. Scum like the US Chamber of Commerce run congress because of their cash.
