Gov. Robert Bentley late Friday ordered workers to remove “no weapons beyond this point” signs at all state rest areas.

The governor’s move came following a back and forth between Alabama Department of Transportation and state lawmakers over the legality of banning guns at rest areas for all those other than law enforcement.

Woo Hoo. No more stashing your firearms in the bushes as you enter the rest areas. Thanks Gov. So, how many folks complied with this former notification anyway?

I’ve always considered rest stops riskier than malls and movie theaters and always take appropriate defensive security measures at all three.

Unless, of course, there’s a sign preventing you from doing so, right? LOL!

You aren’t illegal at a state rest stop any more.

In 1978 travelling from south Ohio to NW Pa I had to take a whiz at 0300. I pulled into a state rest stop in PA and as I got out of my car, I saw a ‘dude’ knocking the shiite out of an old guy. I was a cop in Ohio and had my revolver on me. I whacked the ‘dude’ on his fuzzy head, talked to the older guy, let him take a whiz in the parking lot and thought VERY SERIOUSLY about whacking the ‘dude’ after the old people left. Instead I kicked his head around until my foot hurt, stomped both his hands and left him alone. After I pissed on his face.

Back in the 80’s when I drove multiple times across the country I would pull over in the rest areas and take an early to mid morning nap. I always had my 12 gauge shotgun laying across my lap, chamber open, and ready to pump a round in if needed. I never had anyone attempt to disturb me but often wonder what people and for that matter, state troopers, thought as they saw me sleeping behind the wheel.

Biggest risk at these rest stops IMHO is that you’re going to walk in on a queer gang **** where they had each driven 2 to 8 hours after arranging on the internet to hook up at this particular rest stop.
