It’s true. My Irish forebears in the 1800’s were not treated much better than blacks in the Jim Crow South.

Much to our shame though we weren’t much nicer to the Italians when they came along.

There were more Irish slaves overall in the Americas than there were black, IIRC.

It depended somewhat on where one settled.
My ancestors came in the 1880s and settled in central Kansas.
Mostly Irish and Scotts, although my direct patrilineal line had come from an area northeast of Nepal by way of England.
