Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, R, who presides over a state with a high rate of gun violence and a low quality of gun laws, is shocked. "We never would've imagined it would've happened in Louisiana or Lafayette," he said after last week's movie theater shooting in Lafayette, La.
Jindal responded with a kind of gunner jujitsu, calling for other states to emulate the sloppy standards of Louisiana, which has loose gun laws and has largely failed to supply mental health records to the criminal background check system, although a law signed by Jindal now requires it. Louisiana has the nation's second-highest rate of death by firearm. Gov. Jindal sparks controversy over Westboro Baptist Church comments

"How could this have happened?" is perhaps the most dishonest question in all of gun land. American gun culture is impressively pervasive, remarkably influential and reliably deadly. Give the gun lobby its due: It gets results.
It also gives the angry, paranoid and armed a collective voice. John Russell Houser, the cantankerous 59-year-old who opened fire at a showing of "Trainwreck" in Lafayette, seems to have dabbled in Hitler love. But his online complaints also echo the decline-and-fall narrative of National Rifle Association leader Wayne LaPierre.

Let me get this straight. An @ss clown from Chicago, which simultaneously has some of the strictest gun control laws AND one of the highest gun crime rates...is criticizing La gun laws?
DAMN!.....beat me to it.
Perhaps the problem is more complicated than guns.
How dare you point out factual statistics! Racist!
The Tribune writer never would have dreamed this would happen when there was a liberal mandated “gun free unarmed victims are here” sign on the theatre’s front door
Mentally unstable Alabama man, drives to Louisiana and starts shooting people and its Louisiana gun laws that are the problem? Something is very wrong with the author of this article, he is lacking any reasoning or logic skills.
Chicago sucks. And so probably does the author.
Yes, by all means Chicago, tell us how successful you have been with your ideas at home.
The journalist writes for the Chicago Tribune.
I don’t think Chicago can preach to anyone about gun violence.

Second highest rate of death by illegal or legal firearms? I think that needs to be answered.
Hahahahahahahaha...a newspaper from Chicago decrying gun violence.
Actually I agree.
The gun laws in this area are what caused the extensive casualties.
The Gun Free Zone left the patrons helpless, vulnerable, unarmed, sitting ducks that any lunatic could pick off without fear of any resistance.
Of course, using liberal logic, the ‘no gun’ sign should have kept the lunatic out. Maybe he didn’t see the sign. Maybe they should make their signs bigger.
Jindal is a republican, so it’s the NRA’s fault. They go around handing out free guns to crazy people, doncha know...
It never fails.
Never.
Some lunatic goes ape sh*t, and everyone strokes themselves in their rush to pass laws which influence only the law-abiding.
Of course he is, that's a requirement for membership in the AAMCS, aka, American Anti-gun Moron Society.
You have to understand the reasoning that typifies that org. To wit, guns have a mind of their own and are evil in and of themselves. Therefore the 2nd Amendment is an archaic relic of a long past era that is not relevant to 21st century society, and consequently has no place in modern day jurisprudence.
Try to keep up with 21st century thinking please, this 2nd Amendment nonsense is getting out of hand and millions of innocent babies and children are dying in Americans streets and government housing projects as a result.
Sounds like he was a perfect fit to be a Chicago Tribune writer. I've never seen any evidence that they screen for those skills in their writers.
Chicago shut the blank up about gun laws and just entertain yourself with the nightly killings and community organizer successes!
Mentally unstable, Big time Obama supporter - but that would be redundant.
Louisiana has topped the murder rates for years, with New Orleans being the primary factor.
What was it that Nagan said?
