Senate Republicans Introduce Bill To Defund Planned Parenthood

A group of Republican senators, led by Iowa’s Joni Ernst, introduced legislation Tuesday to strip Planned Parenthood Federation of America of the more than $500 million of taxpayer money that it receives every year.

The bill comes after the anti-abortion group Center for Medical Progress released undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood officials talking with disturbing frankness about selling the organs of unborn children to research facilities.

The group’s affiliates across the country performed 327,653 abortion procedures in 2013, according to its most recent annual report. That report shows that Planned Parenthood took more $528 million in federal money, 41 percent of its revenue.

“As a mother and grandmother, I find this footage of Planned Parenthood’s role in the harvesting of the organs of unborn babies morally reprehensible and vile,” Ernst said in a statement. “The American people are horrified by these videos as well. Simply put, this legislation ensures that funding for women’s health is protected and that taxpayer dollars will not go to Planned Parenthood.”

The group’s affiliates and national office reported $77.9 million in “other operating revenue.” No word on how much of that revenue came from the sale of aborted babies’ body parts.

Wow. What’s the big hurry? How long did they have to do this, and they wait for videos to come out?

Just consider this-PP and its supporters have conspired to make every American taxpayer complicit in their evil, against the will of Biblical Christians and others. They know they’re evil, and like the sodomites, they want to force everyone to be complicit in their evil, because they don’t want to go to hell alone.

It almost seems like a new branch of government, you can’t get rid of it.

You know, nobody is trying to eliminate Planned Parenthood. We just don’t want us taxpayers to pay the bills for the abortions.

This will go through the normal process and will take a year. Will not be fast tracked and will not clear the House without some kind of crap and back to the Senate. The Senate will recess for their usual fun and games. Nothing will get done before recess. This way the communists Democrats will have passed this through enough time to no longer be important.

No way they defund PP. There is more outrage over a American killing a lion than the evil that is PP.

This was an end run around Mich McConnell, who, like Harry Reid before him, tends to keep a LOT of legislation bottled up or otherwise made irrelevant.

There was never the compelling visual aid available for introduction of this legislation until now. Merely reading about how PP was doing things, and then seeing visual proof of their cynical approach, is a quantum leap.

They’ll just change names, like ACORN did.

This is theater. What is the plan for forcing Obama to sign it? Why wasn’t it attached to must pass legislation like Ex/I’m? Just how cynical are these guys to keep playing the same games thinking we will keep praise for nothing?

I hope people will also seek to end state funding of PP and any local funding it might get in some places.

Because it will probably fail about 88-10

Most of the “pro-life” senators will vote for PP every time

Well it must be working. Even here everytime they put up some legislation, amendment, etc. that I KNOW is going nowhere you see all the....Yays!! Smoke em out!
How long and how many times do we have to ‘smoke em out’ to know who the enemy is?
When I ask that question I usually get accused of giving up, etc. and told to move.
I refuse to rant anymore and apparently my vote means nothing so.......what to do?

The wonder is why any taxpayer dollars ever were diverted to abortion in the first place. What part of the items in the Preamble allow for this?

Agree but let's get them on record. Can't the House cut their funding?

The bolded candidates are up for reelection in 2016.

Draw your own conclusions why so many Senators signed up for this bill, but wouldn't support an amendment to a bill that they knew must pass.

They get to go home and campaign saying they supported defunding Planned Parenthood without risking actually defunding Planned Parenthood.
