Dr Walter Palmer is a dentist in the human happiness business.
His website, at the River Bluff Dental clinic in Minnesota, says he ‘strives to create dazzling smiles’.
For 27 years this self-anointed kindly man has showered his patients with extraordinary care and comfort, ensuring they leave his surgery immeasurably more self-confident than when they entered.
His official photograph on the website exudes almost Saintly virtue; Palmer’s own gleaming dentures shining beatifically beneath his warm, bespectacled, twinkling eyes.
But there’s another side to Dr Palmer.
A side he alludes to right at the very end of a Q&A on the same website.
‘What are you passionate about aside from dentistry?’ reads the question.
‘I am nationally and internationally award-winning archer,’ he answers, proudly, adding that he enjoys ‘staying active and observing and photographing wildlife.’
Only he doesn’t just observe or photograph the wildlife.
The ‘awards’ that Dr Palmer, 55, likes to win are the severed heads and limbs of the world’s finest animals.
The bigger the beast the better: lions, tigers, rhinos, bison, elks, anything that looks great in his snuff trophy cabinet.
Dr Palmer tours the jungles, prairies and safari parks of the world hunting his prey.
He pays a fortune for this privilege, and he absolutely loves it.
But that enthusiasm slightly spilled over on July 6, after he paid over $50,000 for the chance to hunt and kill a lion called Cecil in Zimbabwe....

The best countries to find rare exotic game in Africa are those countries that promote the hunting of those species. One a price is established for a lion or an elephant it HAS VALUE. And once it has value it is protected and even cultivated to provide sport and to reestablish the species in areas it has been devoid of for a while. Win, win!
Er, it might do you folks better to see to the fact that your lovely city is becoming a Muslim cesspool.
I have a buddy who has hunted all over the world. He has all sorts of trophies in his huge house. He smokes and has ash trays made out of elephant feet. He has a fully mounted giraffe head mounted in his great room. The damn thing was cut off at the body so if you can imagine the bottom of the neck being mounted on the wall and then the head itself is way up in the air at the other end of the neck. This guy is a real business guy and has made millions developing real estate. I hate his house, it creeps me out. I can shoot, gut and dress a deer with the best of them but all the heads this guy has hanging off the walls in his house really bug me. But, it is his money, his house, his guns and bullets. It is none of my business what he does with his money and it is none of anyones business what this dentist does except if it is illegal then it is the problem of the country he did whatever bad deed he did it in.
Ripping up the unborn with MY money? With TAX dollars? That is my business and I want it stopped. To me that is something that needs quick action on.
Why isn’t the person or whomever offer a price to hunt the lion down is not vilified? The Dentist is the only one to be vilified in all this but not the association or whatever that sold that adventure off.
Where do you think the money goes? An African hunting expedition employs a bunch of Africans, and makes the game park viable.
You would prefer he donate money to some charity, where much of it would go to administrative overhead, and much of the rest would be stolen by Mugabe? I think much of the fuss about this is the African kleptocrats being upset over not getting their cuts.
Piers Morgan does not say anything that I want to hear or read.
He is a true piece of shit.
Meanwhile Morgan wants to turn every one of us into defenseless victims like Cecil the lion.
