True, but that is not a case where the car was about to run over the LEO, justifying DPF.
LEOs problem is that he is now stuck with that story/justification as his reason for shooting, and it won’t fly.
If ever, God forbid, anyone needs to use deadly force in any situation, the answer to anyone’s question is:
“He said he was going to kill me and I believed him. I’m sorry, but I’m too upset at this time to speak to you. Please speak with my attorney, Mr. XXXX.”
That is the answer to ANY and EVERY question including, “Do you know what time it is?”
No, I’m not kidding.. Answer to “do you know what time it is could lead LEO to question your tri-lateral orientation, apparent sobriety, etc.
Heaven hope none of us ever have to use DPF, but if we do, that is the only answer to any question.... and NO media interviews.

You give good advice, but we must remember that he is presumed innocent and it’s not up to him to prove that he’s innocent. The burden is on the prosecution according to Ohio laws and Supreme Court decisions that apply to police officers. He does need to have the best possible attorney and seeing how he’s out of a job and he may not have been represented by a union, he may not get that.
The prosecution won’t have an easy time of it. There was this recent case where an officer was exonerated by a bench trial.

actually 13 kids, 75 offences and a bottle of gin handed off to the cop during the stop. No license or plate but a bottle of cheap gin. Job? Says is a music producer..i.e., “jobless.” None of this reported in the media. The tape looked to me like he was driving off or into the cop. Another boy scout shot by police.
