Walker Tells Private Group He'll Skip Florida Primary
RealClearPolitics ^ | July 28, 2015 | Rebecca Berg

Scott Walker has insisted he will be able to “compete anywhere in the country” as a candidate for president — but, at a private event in St. Louis on Sunday, Walker said he does not plan to compete in Florida, contradicting his own public assertions that he would not skip that primary.

During a fundraiser at the St. Louis home of Rex Sinquefield, Missouri’s most active Republican donor, Walker reasoned that it “doesn't make a ton of sense for him to pour cash into Florida” with Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio in the race, said one person who was present for Walker’s remarks. Bush is a former Florida governor, and Rubio is a senator from Florida.

Instead, Walker suggested he will focus on the Midwestern states with primaries around the same time, the source said — including Missouri, Illinois and Ohio, which are slated to hold their primaries March 15, the same day as Florida’s.

A second person who was present confirmed that Walker said it would not make sense for him to try to compete in Florida with Rubio and Bush in the race.

In a May interview with radio host Laura Ingraham, Walker made headlines when he suggested that he might pass over the Florida primary, ...

But Walker later attempted to walk back that remark, telling reporters during a trip to Florida in June: "If I didn't think I could compete, I wouldn't be here today.”

Walker is so lite weight, it is sad. He couldn’t help fuel Trumps 757. He really needs to quit.

This just shows he's been instructed to not compete on the Bush turf.

And it tells us who his masters are.

He's currently polling 3rd in FLA with a chance.

That is not a good idea. Even if you are going to build a nominal organization, Florida is deep enough into the schedule to want some presence there. If he is one of the last three or four standing, he will need to compete in all of those races. I can’t imagine he is having money problems already.

FLASH to Walker.

You don’t skip States if you want to win the nomination.

You show up, compete and move to the next State.

It's frustrating. Walker could have been what Trump is now. Actually, Walker was Trump, briefly when he took on the unions and tenure in universities. Unfortunately, he is running the typical milquetoast Republican presidential campaign.

He needs to be more blunt, and shake things up and reach out to blue-collar and middle-class voters.

The “smoky backroom” agreed that Jeb! would be the nominee.

It’s a team effort. Walksy will deliver the Club for Growth endorsement.

So why campaign in Florida? It would be soooo exciting for Jeb! to be put over the top at the convention by a near unanimous Florida delegation.

Perry was supposed to deliver the Fed Up! vote to Jeb! But now Trump is messing everything up.

Regardless, Lindsey Graham will test the exclamation marks to ensure that they are rigid and brawny enough to make it through the general election. And not by throwing them off a building.

March 15 is the start of winner-take-all primaries, and Florida is what Bush is gambling on. If Walker is out, the Bush chances increase. It does make Walker look like a Jeb stalking horse or backup plan if he avoids Florida.

You don’t do that by not showing up to fight for those blue collar voters.

you’re right and from last week Howie Carr on his radio show in Mass. here & he was slobbering all over Walker even tho’ he likes Trump with reservations.

Walker is like numnutz or something he’s not presidential material.

I like what I hear about the Donald & respect him for what his message is to the US & I also like the fact he doesn’t have to depend on other people’s money or be in the back pocket of someone.

In my heart of hearts I really believe Ted Cruz should receive the nomination but those repubs would not nominate him either.

There are a multitude of reasons why I have always liked Mr. Cruz and how he has presented himself and he’s a very intelligent man ;brilliant I should say. Which is a far cry from that dumbass in residence right now.

The Donald could make a good president if he sticks to his message and doesn’t commit political suicide by his own mouth if he is really dedicated to doing the job & turning this country around.

So for now, I’ll listen to the Donald and see what happens-we have many months to go .

Lots of stupid hater comments on this.

All he said was that he won’t put a lot of money into Florida. Which, with 2 Florida candidates in the race, makes plenty of sense to me. FL is winner take all, there’s no prize for 3rd place.

It makes no sense. Two Floridians split the vote and he walks through the middle.

Skip Florida because of Bush and Rubio?

Skip Texas because of Cruz and Perry?

Skip New York because of Trump?

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th most populous states?

“Walker reasoned that it “doesn’t make a ton of sense for him to pour cash into Florida” with Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio in the race,”

And yet isn’t Trump kicking both their butts in the polls about Florida without spending a dime there?

I love Cruz. He has helped us turn the masses. He will be in the administration or leader of the Senate. He is young and has many presidential elections ahead.

I share your frustration. I had high hopes for Walker. All I have left is the hope that perhaps he is starting off slow intentionally, intending to build momentum...... sigh..... it's all I got...

You and I appear to be in the same place . We have two good choices Cruz and Trump. Really will be interesting now that it is almost debate time.
