Which raises an interesting point. The Founders gave us the 2nd Amendment in order to protect/defend ourselves against a totalitarian and/or oppressive government. If the citizenry is to be able to protect/defend itself against such a government, should not the citizens have the same weapons as government?
It depends on the sort of struggle one expects to have.
Going by now-classic guerrilla strategy, the first target of the guerrilla aren’t policemen and soldiers, but the enemy civilians and officials. Then one controls the people.
Stages beyond that are a little difficult to plan and stockpile for. No point worrying about stage 2 until stage 1 is implemented.
