If you installed Windows 10 and like privacy, you checked the defaults, right? Oh dear

Best post of the thread!

MS haters just gonna hate.

Come to think of it...new tech haters just gonna hate any new tech.

Windows 3.1 all the way!

I used Windows 3.1 back in the early 1990s. Even on a machine with 1/20th the clock speed, it could load applications like word processors and browsers in a fraction of the time needed by "modern" versions running on modern hardware.

So why aren’t you still using 3.1? I think I still have copies around here somewhere.

I used Tandy DOS with Deskmate GUI on both the Coco and T1000 machines and liked it quite a bit. Also had Timex Sinclair machines with...Tom Mix software IIRC that worked fine.

Back then Bill Gates said no one needs more than 64k memory.

Eventually it’s time to move on.

Don’t be so touchy, Bill. I’m not all that concerned about your backend support. Frankly, that means little to me. I just want my stuff to work.

We’ve got numerous Apple devices—three iPads, 5-6 iPods of various generations, and several iPhones (versions 4, 5, & 6) and none of them ever need repair. I once broke my iPad screen but it was clearly my fault. I paid to have it repaired and it still works flawlessly.

Right now I own 5 laptops running windows 7-8.1 and two desktops running Windows XP. Each of the laptops are less than two years old and each has had to be taken to the repair guy at least once. I bought mine a year ago this month and it has been twice.

Basically I had already decided I am done with Microsoft before I knew Microsoft 10 was coming. After all of these computers die, they will be replaced with Apple products. I’m no Apple fanboy. I was hesitant to give up my pc mostly due to familiarity and Microsoft Office and because of some proprietary software I’m running, but due to reliability, Apple has slowly won me over.

If you see ten posts in ten days about the same “scandal,” have you seen ten scandals? The privacy section isn’t going to go away no matter how long you wait. Deselecting what information MS recovers will still be the way to go a year from now.

Been using Vista since about 2008, or so. Never had any issues. Of course, it's just a home computer, so I don't do much other than surf, email, and homeschool stuff.

Why would they want this if not to spy on you and sell the information to everyone. They do not give away a operating system for nothing you know.

“If you open a file, we may collect information about the file, the application used to open the file, and how long it takes any use [of] it for purposes such as improving performance, or [if you] enter text, we may collect typed characters, we may collect typed characters and use them for purposes such as improving autocomplete and spell check features,” the Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions users accept says.

Screenshots of where to turn OFF everything.
The OFF switch will not work in my opinion is to just fool you.

I intend to keep my current machine on Windows 7 for as long as possible; and I'm holding off buying a second, Windows 10 machine until I stop seeing daily scandals about new security and privacy issues.

Like somebody else said, Windows 7 does it too. But I'm not trying to delegitimize the reports. I've been on Windows 10 for 2 days and I really like it. Seems quicker and lighter to me. Also the Edge browser seems light and extremely fast. We had to switch over to Chrome in Windows 7 because IE 11 seemed like such a beast. Edge is a much better experience.
