I intend to keep my current machine on Windows 7 for as long as possible; and I'm holding off buying a second, Windows 10 machine until I stop seeing daily scandals about new security and privacy issues.

Windows 7 does it too. My bet, just not as well.

I too have Windows 7 and it works just fine. I can’t think of any reason to upgrade. And if Microsoft tries to force me to upgrade, I will probably purchase a Mac.

One of the links mentioned seems very useful for those with security concerns.

Installed Windows 10 on a laptop I rarely use over the weekend just to see what it looks like.

No, I definitely did not go with the “express” default settings. Too much info sent to microsoft, etc. Also I turned off microphone and camera options.

Talk about invasive. I wonder what they’re not telling you. Its starting to look like Gates got a huge payoff from fedgov to design a new version of Windows to change it from an OS to an OS plus NSA spyware so they could give it away “free”.

If you see ten posts in ten days about the same “scandal,” have you seen ten scandals? The privacy section isn’t going to go away no matter how long you wait. Deselecting what information MS recovers will still be the way to go a year from now.

Why would they want this if not to spy on you and sell the information to everyone. They do not give away a operating system for nothing you know.

“If you open a file, we may collect information about the file, the application used to open the file, and how long it takes any use [of] it for purposes such as improving performance, or [if you] enter text, we may collect typed characters, we may collect typed characters and use them for purposes such as improving autocomplete and spell check features,” the Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions users accept says.

Screenshots of where to turn OFF everything.
The OFF switch will not work in my opinion is to just fool you.

Like somebody else said, Windows 7 does it too. But I'm not trying to delegitimize the reports. I've been on Windows 10 for 2 days and I really like it. Seems quicker and lighter to me. Also the Edge browser seems light and extremely fast. We had to switch over to Chrome in Windows 7 because IE 11 seemed like such a beast. Edge is a much better experience.
