The low birthrate of Americans (due to a combination of the legal minefield for men in marriage and futile attempts to hold onto our diminishing standard of living) is the cause of much of our maladies; our Social Security pyramid scheme is based on a growing population, and our Balkanization is caused by attempts to keep a country of 300+ million relevant in a world dominated by two Asian giants with over a billion people each.
