As I said in an earlier post, it was more the declaration of war by Russia then those bombs.

I don’t agree.

I don’t think the Russians scared the Japanese at all. Marshall Zhukof had beaten them in an early battle but other than that, Japan had always defeated the Russians.

The Russians were afraid of the Japanese and only declared war after it was obvious that Japan was finished. Russia then grabbed as much territory as they could before the war ended.

The Russians knew we had the A bomb almost as soon as we did but did not declare war on the Japanese because they feared them.

The Russian military had no capability to invade Japan. Furthermore, many Japanese units in mainland of Asia continued fighting AFTER the call for surrender by the Emperor.

Sorry Charlie. Russia, a last minute entrant to the War with Japan, tried to negotiate terms favorable to Japan to end/suspend the war.

The US rightfully demanded “unconditional surrender” and got it.
