Federal expansion + massive illegal immigration changed Virginia radically in the past decade. It’s now essentially a colony of DC. There are still remnants of the spirit of independence in the south and west of the state, but northern VA/DC suburbs are out-populating everyone else.

Soon any display of the Rebel flag will be criminalized. That’s when trouble will break out. But there are incidences of government agents/agencies backing down when faced by local popular resistance.
