Congress should calculate what the EPA fine would be for a private company and reduce the EPA’s budget by that much.

Nice calm pool for the heavy stuff to settle in.

One wonders whether it was done on purpose.
I have considered that.

Hello,
My family and vacationed in CO for the very 1st time in early July. We spent 5 beautiful days in Durango. I am horrified by this spill and what has been unleashed into the water supply...My God, these are the experts that fine and shut down we lowly peons...

If I understand this article correctly this group of people with EPA have been plugging up the mines for years and water has been rising all this time and they were no longer able to hold the now sizable amounts of water back and the water breached the plugs and works.

Excellent post and link. The shocking thing is how consistent the group is in not wanting more government intervention. The story isn’t surprising: at every step it has been government intervention that has worsened the problems. I prefer a private property system and torts. Why should mine companies get a free pass when they damage the property of others?

I’m consistently surprised at the silence out of the front-runners on made to order issues like this. If I were behind, this would be front and center for certain.

Cherry.
I would force the feds to get water to me...FOREVER!
And I understand that is exactly what they are doing...those bastards would be catering to me forever.

Yeah, right, of course they will get away with it, and you are going to pay for it. The speaker was Native. He's not going to pay for anything. We, on the other hand, will.

No...the are claiming that they mistakenly dug out one of the plugs.
Ya right.
Now anyone who has a GD brain would dig around an unstable bank around a settling pond? I wonder if any of these ever thought of getting a temporary holding pond up and pumping that crap into it?
