In the liberal universe, there's no correlation between hard work or ingenuity and financial success. As President Obama recently put it, the rich are simply "society's lottery winners."
Sounding a similar theme, Al Sharpton today declared it "astounding" that Rand Paul believes that income inequality is due to "some people working harder." Astounding, indeed! What's wrong with Rand? How could he possibly believe that someone someone who works, say, 60 hours per week might earn more than someone else who works 20?
Big Al...the poverty pimp!
Well non one should think that simply working harder means more money. Certain jobs just pay more ... by a lot. While I worked damn hard, I didn’t work as hard as many construction workers and heaven knows I made a lot more money. Sometimes you are born into it. There are entertainers who don’t work that hard that make more than hard working blue collar types.
But just to say work hard=more money is, quite frankly, stupid.
Well, I guess it depends how you define work. And true, there are those who inherit it, although there is also that saying -- "from shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves" in three generations.
The fact is that real money is created by people working harder (or smarter) to provide actual value to other people. And it's true that hard work doesn't always guarantee success.
But as a whole, I think it's fair to say that the wealth that a society enjoys was put there by people who worked harder and smarter.
Unless you're buying into Obama's "You didnt' build that" meme.
“Funny - a guy who has never done an honest day’s work in his life can’t believe that people who work harder make more money than people who don’t.”
That’s precisely why he knows the “work harder” line isn’t quite true.
I’ve done it but was born with rare natural abilities that people are willing to pay tons for and happened to meet someone that noticed. Plenty of poor people work much harder than me and barely survive.
Getting rich for most people is still a matter of luck or birth. This is better than any known system in history but we are still very far from “hard work = get rich”.
