TRUMP EFFECT: IS ERICK ERICKSON THROWING DOWN GAUNTLET TO RUSH LIMBAUGH?
Breitbart ^ | 8-12-2017 | Edmund Wright

Posted on 08/14/2015 5:39:49 AM PDT by C. Edmund Wright

Did we just see Erick Erickson’s Red State draw a red line in the sand in front of Rush Limbaugh? And if so, is it another aspect of the booming dynamic known as “the Trump effect?”

That very case can be made – as Erickson used Red State’s daily email blast lead story from Dan McLaughlin on Wednesday to fire shots across the bow of all talk radio hosts who are in any way supporting Donald Trump. And while Erickson does not have the by-line on this indictment, it is right in line with his recent dis-invitation of Trump to speak at the recent Red State gathering. (snip)

(snip) gauntlet is thrown down on all talkers with the bombastic warning that “all those in a position of leadership…. cable and talk radio hosts, pundits, columnists, bloggers – (who are) actively encouraging the Trump phenomenon, you are neither a conservative nor a Republican anymore and should not expect anyone to take you seriously again.”

There’s nothing else to add to that, other than to notice that a direct endorsement of Trump was not a requirement here – no – merely the encouragement “of the Trump phenomenon” is in and of itself damning.

And just in case anyone still missed the main point of the article, it closed with the harsh notice that “Donald Trump’s feckless campaign is a millstone…. take it off your necks, or be drowned by it.” The close was dramatically stark on purpose.

Translation: Those talk leaders who now speak well of Trump’s campaign are heading for a major embarrassment down the line….and ole Erick will be there to remind them.

but I think he likes to put some of them on as foils to underscore how good he is, when he is on his game. He also has some that are top notch, to keep people tuned in. It is a mix.

El Bingo! (a little Spanish lingo thrown in) - you nailed it. BTW, have we had this conversation before? I had it with someone recently.....

Point stands.

IF Erickson has been a substitute for Rush in the past, I missed him.

However—biting the hand that helps to feed you isn’t smart-—at any level of existence. Erickson will find himself alongside Franken in the future. I don’t expect Rush to allow Erick anywhere near the Golden Microphone ever again.

Erickson is an irrelevant pipsqueak, carrying water for a corrupt, dying, Statist political party.

He may be all of those things. That still doesn't make Trump a conservative or a viable candidate for President.

Well let me say this...I think your theory is at LEAST 50% correct....and you know, when you think about it, the final result may not depend on both camps being parties to this. It might just play out that way......

You might try and read an article before you go off on a rant that’s 100% irrelevant. I agree with much of your rant, but it’s got NOT A DAMNED THING TO DO with this conversation.

He is a wannabe. His convention was dying and he had resorted to joe scarborough as a keynote speaker.

Without the “trump controversy” he was finished.

"Based on observation and many conversations with an intimate friend of his...I'd say school boy infatuation. The theory of this life long friend is that for all of his enormous incredible success and influence, he's not over being the fat kid in middle school and being kept away from the cool kids table. Trump is just about the coolest kid around now. THINK BACK: Rush used to be overly deferent to Rove, when Rove was cool. Again, this is from people who know him personally and have since Cape Girardeau days and another since Kansas City days."

This makes sense, IMO. It explains why Rush is always talking about golfing with Trump...he's impressed that he can do so.

I haven't listened to Rush for a while because I don't care to hear a three-hour Trump fan club litany. But, early in the game as it is, I do believe there will be egg on the faces of Trump enthusiasts. Trump just can't govern his mouth.

Rush could take a lesson in objectivity from Levin. Mark's chief problems with the Fox debate were the stupid questions and the freeze-out of Ted Cruz. He made a point to say it wasn't about Trump, or about defending him.

All of that may be true, but what if...IF.....what if at some point, Trump is embarrassed with one of his lefty reflexes at the wrong time on the wrong subject? Will it matter that EE is a hypocrite at that time? No, but it will be at least a smidgeon of egg on some pretty prominent faces.

Think about it: there’s not a lot of base line differences between what EE said and what DAVID LIMBAUGH said on Hannity and on line today. THINK ABOUT IT.

Frankly, when you compare Trump to Cruz, he’s all over the place. And that’s....potentially upsetting. But as one who refuses to obsess over every policy squiggle...I’m sticking with the entertainment side. To borrow a phrase from 0bama; “for too long”. For too long, we have been driven insane by every threat to Constitutional freedoms and rights emanating from his lying evil mouth. We forget that no president outside of 0bama has come anywhere near arrogating for himself the right to override Congress and inflict whatever form and format of idiocy he can pull out of his excretory opening.

The fact is, that most things that presidents can do or want to will not be enacted into law. This president has been the most glaring exception in the history of the nation. Even the great FDR got a lot more pushback and even from his own party than this idiot. That’s the general idea, ain’t it? Congress snubs/checks the president for any of several reasons, and in general, the country doesn’t tossed around like a plaything in the hand of a badly behaving child. That’s exactly the way it’s supposed to work and we or you or I don’t have to be deep Constitutional scholars to know that.

That goes for judicial appointments and more importantly, USSC confirmations. So this is why I cannot worry about what I am calling “squiggles”...these stump-speech things Trump (or any of the others) wants to do, if elected. It is more noise than reality and more heat than light. It is unproductive and blood-pressure raising to obsess about every feint and gambit coming out of Trump’s mouth as if “this will be the new reality if he is elected”. First, he has to get elected and that is a long way and many hurdles off. Secondly, he’d have to get it/them past Congress.

"Funny - I have it on good authority that Cruz is indeed looking at this as a long term chess match."

I've suspected as much. It's good to have it confirmed.

>> since Rush has stated on numerous occasions that his job is to attain the largest audience possible and hold it, well Eric, guess who probably won’t be hosting for Rush again <<

Maybe.

But an alternate theory is that Rush doesn’t mind if there is an occasional lousy guest host, because the drop in ratings for the guest will demonstrate to the advertisers and station owners just how popular and indispensable Rush is.

A related theory is that Rush doesn’t want his guest hosts to be “too good” because then the powers-that-be would realize that Rush might be replaceable after all.

“If EE is proven even somewhat correct....it’s all on the record now. There will be no escaping the scoreboard.”

Hmmm. Dole, McCain, McConnell, Boehner. The failure of GOPe candidates to follow through on victories given them in two elections. GOPe majorities in both houses rolling over and playing dead for Obama and the Supreme court.

There’s no escaping that actual scoreboard. That theoretical scoreboard that EE is trying to scare us with seems like pretty weak stuff in comparison.

Go, Trump, Go!

That’s an entirely different scoreboard. You gotta get out of your fan boi mentality that ALL opposition to Trump is somehow some kind of pro Dole pro McCain Pro Jeb stuff. That’s really very shallow and vapid emoting. It’s not even thinking at the lowest level.
