Republican Party Doesn’t Want to Believe its Voters Agree with Trump.
VOX ^ | August 17, 2015 | Ezra Klein

Posted on 08/17/2015 6:51:32 AM PDT by sevinufnine

Part of what makes Trump dangerous to the Republican elites is he's willing to cater to the opinions of the Republican base in ways that the Republican establishment wouldn't dare. In doing so he can exploit longstanding cleavages between the Republican Party and the voters it represents.

Ezra Klein has pretty much summed it up. He really got a clue.

I have made fun of Trump for years on Celebrity Apprentice.

I would have never ever believed that I would support him for President.

My reality is that I don’t care if he ends up being as bad as Jeb in some areas. I want the Republican Party to understand we are fed up with the country being ruined. Right now Cruz can’t win on his own.

I am in for Trump/Cruz or Trump/Palin or Trump/Carson or.. but well..no Trump/Bush.

Come what may.

Bring it on Trump. Put your money where your mouth is and save this country.

“I have made fun of Trump for years on Celebrity Apprentice.”

Political and famous persons have long been made fun of for specific features and cartoon characters abound in that area. GB2, his big ears. Obama, big ears and big dopy smile. Pelosi, her freaky look in general.

Trump? It will be the crazy hair :)

Big take-away for me:

Republican voters have become very much like the blue collar Reagan Democrat voters that have vexed me for so many years in Pittsburgh.

Conservative on social issues.
Conservative on defense.
Conservative on immigration.
Anti-global trade deals.

And very liberal on economics. A clear majority want Social Security to be maintained or INCREASED, whatever the cost.

It ain’t the party of Reaganomics any longer.

Either years of class warfare rhetoric has done its damage or too many GOPe dalliances with Crony Capitalism have left the bulk of people with little faith in markets.

Whatever, GOP candidates will either have to adjust to this reality or get their heads handed to them.

Many people on this site haven’t really watched Celebrity Apprentice.

It’s more than the hair.

Trump is a trip.

There have been times when I was aghast at what he said and the fact that he allowed it to be aired.

But well..that’s Trump.

It’s that “don’t give two “blank” “ attitude about what you think that is winning over supporters.

As much as I hate to say so, a message of smaller government is a sure loser. Even despite the rise of ISIS strangling Rand Paul's candidacy in the crib, his brand of Libertarianism is a sure loser with actual voters. Dick Gephardt, circa 1976, would probably have a great shot at winning the GOP nomination in 2016.

PERFECT ADMINISTRATION:

TRUMP-CRUZ, President and Vice-President

JOE ARPAIO, Attorney General

RICK PERRY, Secretary of State

SCOTT WALKER, Czar to dismantle most of the central socialist government

Well I would say that most Americans are not anti free trade. But the Gee Oh Pee definition of free trade IMO has become so convoluted it now translates into the US agreeing over and over again to take a financial hit on jobs etc in order to enrich a poorer nation at our expense.

Trump wants to re-negotiate our trade agreements so they benefit the US. He does not want to do away with free trade. And neither do I. I just want a level playing field.

As far as Social Security goes I have no problem with reforming it to some extent but what I always say is first I’d like to see one GOP leader list the rogue or unnecessary agencies of govt they would shut down in order to really cut the size of government. Then tell me what they want to cut out of Social Security. But they never will.

I just threw him in there because I think he’s not so bad. Besides he knows nothing about foreign policy. I don’t want a government of lifer politicians.

I think there should be a place for Michelle Bachman and Sara Palin somewhere in what’s going to left of the government.

Exactly! The elites thought they were going to force Bush on us like they did McCain and Romney.

Not this time!

“As much as I hate to say so, a message of smaller government is a sure loser. “

And part of that problem is the simple fact of the number of “voters”who work for the government and thus have a vested interest in at least not “shrinking” the government’s size! Couple that with the freeloaders who have made the dole a way of life, and it’s pretty difficult to sell reducing the size of the government, even though there are more than a couple of departments that should be shuttered completely.

Donald Trump and the Republican party are two DIFFERENT entities in the sense of SUBSTANCE and INTEGRITY.

You stated what has to be recognized as to the growing US government. This was the thinking of Roosevelt for a solution to the great depression which I went through as a youth. Only WWII made a course change but since then the same old ideology has been growing. If my memory serves me correctly, before Roosevelt there was much economic chaos. The path of ‘recovery’ was to have all kinds of government programs. WWII was a sociatal disruption. Over the years since WWII the US has reverted to the socialization of the 1930s.

Good. I had not heard that.
********

this morning I heard Judge Napolanto say that it would be impossible to send the illegals back. I hate the word impossible. Makes me think of politicians who always use it. Trump does not. There is always a way to get things done. Trump may be the only one who can find a way to get us out of this mess.

Dear RNC -
These primaries are for us to pick a candidate not you. The debates are for us to hear their differences so we can choose, not you.
Go away Paul
Go away Bush
Go away Graham
Go away Christie

That would be a good start in whittling them down IMO.
