I was talking to a kid behind the counter at McD’s about this weeks ago.
I told him to tell all his buds that they need to quit listening to the union lackeys because business will only replace him with automation rather than pay him 15 bucks...he said no way.

And yet, GUARANTEED, the kid will protest when his job is eliminated.

And that’s just the bow wave: more and more low-skill jobs will be automated out of existence, and then the skill level will climb.

The question will become: “What do we do with the permanently-unemployed (and unemployable) masses ?

I suspect it will end up going along the lines of Pournelle’s “Welfare Islands” or Brain’s “Terrafoam”. . . .

Trust me he’ll be thinking about that all day long. If only someone could get ahold of Obama’s playbook written by Soros that lists all the line items he ‘s going down to head us down the path of hell into uitter brokenness. One day inescapable proof will surface that will prove that he was a plant and working for the other team and they will tear down his statues. It will be the perfect payback in light of recent events.

My son goes to college and works two part time jobs, one in a university business office and the other at a pizza hut. When he started working in high school I told him, you don’t half ass do the job cause you will get to do it all over again, you don’t go in late and you don’t call in unless it is a real emergency. If you need off you tell your manager a week in advance.

At the pizza place he works the other workers call in sometimes, most times they just don’t show. One worker has been fired four times in last six months. He stays gone a couple of weeks and then wonders in says he wants to work and the manager lets him. He will work a couple of days and call in for a week.

My son has covered and covered and covered for lazy employees getting in a ton of extra hours. He recognizes management is the problem here along with the sorry workers they have hired. I suspect his days are numbered at this place as he asked for a couple of days off ten days in advance for a mini vacation before classes started back, oh sure you can take them, until the day before and then it was you need to cover the next three days.

He was complaining to me and I told him that with 99.9% of companies loyalty is a one way street. The next time you want off tell them in advance and no matter what they say don’t show, if they fire you fine, from what you tell me they will be calling you back because they can’t get anyone that is willing to work for any price.

that is how we have self service refill soda.

It is less expensive to offer soda that way than to hire people to actually work and pay benefits and pay taxes on the extra staff.

It was not just one person who lost their job last go around. It was four. One for each shift and a spare. Add more if 24 hours.
