Educating Anti-Semite Roger Waters on Israel
Townhall.com ^ | August 17, 2015 | Lawrence Meyers

“The world hates the Jews. In or out?” – David Mamet

Politics is downstream from culture. So when a cultural icon like Roger Waters sits down with supplicant Gideon Levy from Haaretz, to “set the record straight” that he really and truly isn’t an Anti-Semite, and that BDS really and truly isn’t an anti-Semitic movement, it is incumbent upon all Jews to refute Waters’ libelous statements.

Well, Roger Waters is an Anti-Semite. He literally spouts one falsehood after another, and when I challenged him on his Facebook page, his only response was, “Brainwashed to the best”. That’s always the case when a fool is presented with facts, like dead children whose blood is on Mr. Waters’ hands.

Perhaps Roger Waters can find the error of his ways. Gideon Levy asked if Waters’ listens to the Israeli side of the issue. He claims, “Okay, tell me what it is and I’ll listen.”

Listen well.

Israel

“[Israel] needs to look at what happened in ‘47-’48, and what has happened since…” – Roger Waters

Waters’ continued insistence that Israel is an occupying power on land belonging to someone else is the longest-running contemporary anti-Semitic myth. And yes, it’s anti-Semitic, because we are talking about a country created specifically for the Jewish people. In 1948, the United Nations partitioned what was then called Palestine, into two states: one for Jews, and one for Arabs. Arabs in the region were given an opportunity to live in peace with their own land.

The Jews accepted it. The Arabs rejected it, and immediately made war on the Jewish state. Israel subsequently signed peace treaties with all of its neighbors, all of which agreed to Israel’s drawing of its borders (“the Green Line”).

Tell me again how that land is occupied when everyone in the region and the United Nations agreed to it? Oh, do you mean the West Bank, which was seized by Israel after being attacked by Jordan in the Six-Day War? Again, the United Nations agreed that the land should be retained by Israel.

And the people of East Jerusalem were not “thrown out”, Mr. Waters. The only time East Jerusalem was Arab-controlled was 1949 to 1967…because Jordan had expelled the Jews.

Where was Mr. Waters when Egypt occupied Gaza? Silent, of course.

Today, 98% of the Palestinian population in the West Bank and 100% of Gaza citizenry is under the Palestinian Authority.

Israel withdrew all troops and settlements from the Sinai Peninsula, which it won when Egypt attacked her in 1973. Israel shut down settlements in the West Bank. Israel withdrew unilaterally from Gaza in 2005, going so far as to evicting its own people by force from 21 settlements, demolishing 2800 buildings, 26 synagogues, and even relocating the graves of 48 Jews.

Palestinian Territories

UNICEF provides quite an interesting set of data on life in the Palestinian Territories.

Among some facts: 99% youth literacy, 92% primary school participation, 81% secondary school participation, death rate declined from 1970 (12.6%) to the present (3.5%), life expectancy increase over same period up from 56 to 73, 98% immunization, females 95% literacy compared to males, 99% baby delivery care, 47% decline in Udner-5 mortality rate since 1990.

Does this sound like people suffering en masse under an “occupation”?

Maybe Mr. Waters should take a closer look at Palestinian culture, considering that even the richest 20% of the population still leave 15% of their children in inadequate care and 92.8% of Palestinians dole out violent discipline.

Terror

“They [the rockets] are completely useless, everybody knows it. They’re a gesture of resistance, that’s all. They might hit something, but they won’t. And if they do, they might kill one person, or two people, and very occasionally they do… rockets never hit anything – or very occasionally they blow a few chunks out of a tree somewhere.” - Roger Waters

Do these look like “trees” to you, Mr. Waters?

Are these murdered Israelis “trees”?

Mordechai Yosephov

Afik Ohion Zehavi

Yuval Abebeh

Dorit (Masarat) Benisian

Ayala-Haya Abukasis

Dana Gelkowitz

Faina Slutzker

Yaakov Yaakobov

Shirel Friedman

Oshri Oz

Roni Yihye

Jimmy Kedoshim

Shuli Kat

Amnon Rosenberg

Beber Vaknin

Lutfi Nasraladin

Irit Sheetrit

Hani al Mahdi

Manee Singueanphon

Yossi Shushan

Moshe Ami

Yitzchak Amsalem

Mira Shar

Aharon Smadja

Eliyan Salem el-Nabari

Yosef Nachman Partok

Boris Yarmolnik

Dror Khenin

Ouda Lafi al-Waj

Narakorn Kittiyangkul

Barak Refael Degorker

These Israelis are also victims of Palestinian acts of terror.

Since 2009, more than 2,500 rocket attacks from Gaza have struck Israeli civilian areas.

Mr. Waters, they are acts of terror. These rockets fly, unprovoked, from Palestinian terrorists whose intent is to kill Israelis, and specifically Jews. They are not firecrackers. They are not fireworks that are mere expressions of dissatisfaction. They are lethal weapons designed to kill innocent civilians. Gaza is not occupied territory. The Geneva Convention gives no such right for Palestinians to attack Jews.

Maybe Mr. Waters should visit with citizens around Bethlehem where, prior to building of the security wall, citizens had to wear Level 4 ceramic armor just to leave their homes, because of the threat of terror attacks.

“What I do know is, whosoever it might be, from any side of any war, if anybody is dropping bombs and killing children – I know I’m on the other side.” – Roger Waters

Apparently, this only applies if non-Jewish children are killed. Does Mr. Waters even know which of the names above are children? Why would he? They are only “trees”.

Freedom

“If you’re determined to stand on the side of truth, justice, liberty, human rights, individual freedoms, political equality, and freedom to worship whatever you want…situations crop up that demand your attention more than other situations…in Israel, in my view – the comparisons [to South Africa] are valid.” – Roger Waters

Israel is the only country in the Middle East where all citizens – Jews, Christians, Arabs, Druze, anyone – enjoy liberty, human rights, individual freedoms, political equality, and freedom to worship.

“Israel is that bit of the world now. Whether Israelis or anyone else like it or not, it just is.”

While Mr. Waters prattles on about his fantastical “apartheid”, has he witnessed any of the following: ISIS burning men alive, drowning Christians in cages, forcing Christians to sit on bombs and then blowing them up, pushing gays off towers to plunge to their deaths, sawing off the heads of innocent men, and crucify children for not fasting during Ramadan?

Where is Mr. Waters on this?

“Will someone give me an alternative to nonviolent protest, if we believe that the occupation is wrong and if we believe that the Palestinian citizens of Israel should operate under the same laws as Jewish citizens of Israel.”

Here’s your alternative, Mr. Waters: educate thyself. There is no occupation. Palestinian citizens of Israel DO operate under the same laws.

“When you see the images, and you see the children’s faces, and you see the injuries, and you look at the rubble, and the filth, and the squalor, and the open sewers – you just think: I have to keep working on it.”

That work first begins with educating yourself, Mr. Waters. Then it means lobbying the Palestinian people to expel terrorists from their land, and to vote in a democratic government that recognizes Israel’s right to exist, and to stop launching terror attacks.

Instead, Mr. Waters supports the anti-Semitic BDS movement. That makes him an Anti-Semite.

Are you listening, Roger Waters?

Didn’t Pink Floyd just announce they were breaking up again?

The rest of the band can’t stand him, either.

Pink Floyd is calling it quits and have lasted 48 years.

The Jewish People, on the other hand, are about to celebrate Year 5775 in less than a month.

Roger will die some day and learn the truth.

Another sin of his is that he has RUINED my enjoyment of PF’s very interesting music. Oh well, Wagner was an antisemite too, and his very wonderful music has also been tainted by that knowledge.

Wagner’s music is a LOT better than Pink Floyd’s, by the way. (sigh)

Just proving for the millionth time that having an artistic talent doesn’t mean you know anything about the real world. The adage ‘shut up and play’ is always good advice.

I don’t even know who this guy is. Some rock star, I guess, which automatically makes him an idiot.

I love the idea that lodging rockets at Israelis is no big deal. Anti-semites have been pushing this trope for years now. See what would happen if Ireland started lodging rockets at Britons every day - missing them on a regular basis. Just see how long THAT lasts and how sanguine Brits would be.

I own a couple of documentaries on the group and most of their concerts. Waters never got over the death of Syd Barrett as well as the death of his father in WWII. Many of his songs are about Syd or his dealing with his father’s death.

The rest of the band wanted him to “get over it”. You can see it in their comments about him in the documentaries. They are never really disrespectful but it’s made very clear that they had had it with him and had to move on.

I’m a big fan of the music but, frankly, the tribute band “Brit Floyd” does their stuff even better than they did. They have a duplicate “Pulse” concert on youtube that is amazing.

Why does it even matter what this bum thinks anyway? Is he a mover and shaker in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process anyway??? It confounds me why the Boomers genuflect so much regarding the “esteemed thoughts and opinions” of there erstwhile icons and heroes of the past. Water’s opinions carry as much weight as Katy Perry’s, Eva Longoria’s, Cher’s or Myly Cyrus/Justin Beeeeeeber’s do.

I used to listen to Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Rush, etc.,...all that crap is in the past for me now...I only listen to classical now.....and you’re right...Wagner was vastly superior to any kind of rock music....even the high and mighty Boomer “gods” Pink Floyd.

Been broke up a long time and a key member is dead

Gilmour is married to (of course) a secular Jew and many kids with her

He and Waters have never been buds but he was buds with the others

Does Waters talk about dead Christians

Their numbers dwarf exponentially those of dead Israelis at the hands of Muslims and/or Arabs*

Many but not most of Israels terrorist foes in 60s to 90s were christian Arabs and euro trash Commies....for the record

The traditional difference (before DSM-IV) between a psychopath and a sociopath is that a psychopath is organic, which means that their brain is wired to be a psychopath; but a sociopath is *trained* to be a sociopath.

As such, a psychopath cannot help it, even if most of them find alternative means to control their behavior. But a sociopath, raised in their youth to be a sociopath, can be trained out of it.

But only when they are young. Once they are an adult, it is only very rare that a sociopath can learn how to not be a sociopath.

Sociopathy is seen in the children of fanatics, who have trained them to be fanatics and sociopaths.

Roger Waters father was the son of a coal miner and Labour Party activist, and was a schoolteacher, a devout Christian, and a Communist Party member. While he couldn’t have raised him as a sociopath, dying soon after he was born, it is likely that his mother had similar values.

If nothing else, she was who likely instilled in him his passionate hatred of Jews.

I actually PLAY in a Rock/Blues/Gospel band in a Biker Ministry.

But I LISTEN to Classical.

Even the simplest 2-part invention by Bach trumps PF.

Pink Floyd is great in their genre (rock and roll) and I still love listening to their music (while ignoring the comments of Roger Waters about anything other than his band or his music).

I understand...it was really good music and innovative .

But, just like the movie stars who can’t keep their mouths shut, the rock stars spoil their art for me with their political hypocrisy. I can’t help it.
