Marco Rubio against Donald Trump's call to end 'birthright citizenship'
Tampa Bay Times ^ | 8/18/15 | Alex Leary

Marco Rubio said Tuesday he does not agree with Donald Trump's call to end so-called birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants, though he said some abuses should be addressed.

"I'm open to doing things that prevent people who deliberately come to the U.S. for purposes of taking advantage of the 14th Amendment. But I'm not in favor of repealing it," Rubio told reporters before embarking on a quintessential presidential campaign tour of the Iowa State Fair.

“Donald Trump’s call to end so-called birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants,...”

Trump is right, “A country with no borders, no laws and does not care for its own is not a country.”

I am, like never before in my life, for term limits on these fools. The Teddy Kennedy’s, the ones in our party, they need to go.

Wasn’t Rubio only elected in the first place because of strong Tea Party support? Looks like they backed a con artist, unfortunately.

You don't have to repeal it.

You have to interpret it correctly...and it was NOT intended to confirm citizenship on children born here of illegals.

"I'm open to doing things that prevent people who deliberately come to the U.S. for purposes of taking advantage of the 14th Amendment. But I'm not in favor of repealing it,",

Incoherent. You're for it or against it.

For me, saying that the parent should at least be in the country legally is a pretty low bar. Saying at least one parent should be a green card holder is also not that high a bar. Saying at least one parent should be a citizen is still not unreasonable.

If you don't like the simplicity of Trump's plan, then propose something.

This is the reason Marco Rubio is polling in the low single digits. Had he NOT gotten involved in the gang of eight and if he had held firm with enforcement and a fence, he would be much higher in the polls.

Guess he’s afraid anchor babies won’t be able to be president. Why should we be the only gullible country that lets people come in and drop babies so they can later bring their entire families into the USA?

Most countries do not allow such a thing. The 14th Amendment was written to give citizenship to slaves brought here against their will, not squatters who break our laws and then dare us to do anything about it. Taxpayers pay for their comfort and their children’s welfare and education all the way through college now. What chumps we are.

Birthright citizenship of children whose parents are foreigners is a MIS-interpretation of the 14th.

Rubio wants to continue that mis-interpretation. So does just about every news commentator, including the usually sane Judge Napolitano on FOX.

Sadly, we are so polarized as a Nation that there is ZERO possibility of amending the Constitution for anything.

I don't think he is. Cubans have a special status. His parents didn't come here illegally, and they were already citizens when he was born.

For Rubio, the issue is personal. He was born in Miami in 1971 and his parents, though in the country legally, did not become citizens until 1975 for reasons that are unclear.
