I cannot denigate Michael Reagan. He is a good man with sound beliefs. Like many good men he has not come to the realization of just how far gone the Republic is. It is hard for a son to see someone so little refined as his father’s political heir.

Let’s not forget that it was under Ronald Reagan that we had the last all-encompassing amnesty passed — 1987.
There were also some tax increases as I recall. "Saint" Ronnie was not perfect.

Can't cite anything specific. But I've heard him say a number of things I strongly suspect his father either wouldn't agree with or at least wouldn't say publicly. Yet he always portrays himself as the gatekeeper for his father's legacy.

Personally its kinda irritating - people can still hear RWR's own words and decide for themselves.

Um, Mike? You are the one who has been using your dad’s name to turn a buck for a loooooong time. Frankly, you’re a joke.

He never has wrapped himself in Reagan’s mantra. In the Hollywood article, he has a bronze bust of “The Gipper,” which was given to him by Ronald Reagan. He only commented that Reagan used to be a liberal too - and he was. Why is Michale the younger getting his panties in a wad over that? Guess he supports someone else. But, this lashing was uncalled for.

Don’t forget, Reynaldus Magnus as Gov also freaked out when the Panthers had their open carry demonstrations. That brought us the rush to nullify the 2nd Amendment.
RWR was the best President we have ever had, but he had issues like all humans do.
The Donald is the Rocky Bleier for My Man Ted.

(borrowed that analogy from another Freeper!)

Let's not forget that Simpson-Mizzoli passed in 1986 was passed as a one time fix for a problem, and that strict enforcement was to follow to ensure the problem did not recur.

That's what those supporting the bill promised and that's the spirit in which Reagan signed it. But no president since Reagan followed through on the promise of enforcement. They all deliberately left the border practically open and did not enforce immigration laws to any significant extent.

We got the amnesty from 1986. Still waiting on the law enforcement.

Why didn’t he get upset when obama was comparing himself to Ronald Reagan? So far I haven’t heard Trump do that.

He wasn’t Michael’s stepdad. Michael was adopted.

Don't think much of Michael Reagan, but he hits the mark with the way Trump is comparing himself to Ronald Reagan.

“These people looking to wrap themselves in the mantle of Ronald Reagan are doing a disservice to themselves and a disservice to my father,” he said. “Wrap yourself in your own mantle, tell us who you are.”

Trump thought President Reagan was an empty suit and Bush43 was evil. Yet he praised Obama and hoped he'd be a great potus. LOL Trump is a clown.

Many Republican candidates since Reagan have dropped Reagan's name and tried to establish some connection between their philosophy and Reagan's. And more will in the future. That's just human nature and politics and no amount of pointless whining from Michael Reagan will change it.

It's up to each voter to decide whether they think any connection to Reagan is valid.

“Ronald Reagan, by contrast, was an excellent, reasoned and even witty speaker.”

Hmmm...sounds a lot like Ted Cruz...

Reagan's biggest fault (and this is my biggest complaint about Cruz as well) was that he did not see democrats and leftist republicans for what they are. Too often he treated them as colleagues to be reasoned with rather than evil to be destroyed. Had he treated leftists in congress with the same suspicion that he gave their allies in the Kremlin I doubt you would have seen the ridiculous spending, the amnesty, or a number of other "compromises" Reagan bought into.

“The problem in America is basically Americans”; so now we know what he thinks of us. I’m too angry at that statement to say anything else.

It was a concession on Reagans part for the border to be finally closed....of course the rats reneged on that part of the deal.

That's what you get for "compromising" with the rat party.....that and blamed by the very people you did it for.

Let’s tell the whole story, vs. cherry picking, shall we?

The Simpson-Mazzoli act offered an amnesty deal to < 3 million illegals, in exchange for vastly increased border security. The dems in Congress welched on the security part of the agreement, and Reagan later said he regretted making that concession.
