I was making fun of the way he expressed himself. Instead of taking the blame, he used “became” to make it seem it’s like something done to him, not a choice he made. He is making it clear he hasn’t yet come to terms with his responsibility for his actions.
I would hazard a guess that he (Josh) doesn’t really feel like he did anything wrong. Other than getting caught.
