They were the Washington Senators back until the early 1970’s or late 1960’s, going by memory.

That incarnation of the Senators was terrible, their last World Series, if I’m not mistaken, was 1933...

A few years later, the American league expanded and issued a new franchise in Washington who took the name Senators.

And that incarnation of the Senators was even worse...
