Breaking: Trump Likely to be Banned from Future Republican Debates
The Political Insider ^ | August 21, 2015 | TPI Staff Writer

Posted on 08/21/2015 5:46:59 PM PDT by Din Maker

This report should make Donald Trump supporters angry! While taxpayers are often funding political debates, the Republican Party has the ultimate say over its own events. And while the GOP is supposed to stand for the principles of the Founding Fathers, it can be manipulated by the political establishment which can’t stand Trump’s conservative views.

The real reason why the GOP is focusing on Trump’s threat to run as a 3rd party candidate is it would give them grounds to boot him from future debates. The Republican Party, to protect its interests, is probably willing to boot the front-runner candidate. And they have savvy enough operatives, such as Karl Rove, who are ready to do it…

As Ben Swann explains:

Billionaire and 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump makes new headlines every day. But something he said that he wouldn’t do during the first Republican debate could reveal some major problems with the debate system. Could the GOP ban Trump from its next debate?

The first Republican debate one week ago opened with a question specifically for Trump. Per Bret Baier:

“Who is unwilling tonight to pledge your support to the eventual nominee of the Republican Party and pledge not to run an independent campaign against that person? Raise your hand now if you won’t make that pledge tonight.”

Trump was the only candidate who said that he might run as an independent if he doesn’t get the GOP nomination. Not only is that a difficult path to take, but also an expensive one. Trump is probably the only candidate running who could afford to launch an independent campaign.

Because Trump said he would not rule out running as an independent candidate, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has now said it could ban Trump from the next debate if he won’t make that pledge.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus has since directly requested all Republican candidates to pledge that they will not make a third-party run, according to ABC News. Those who do not pledge might not get an invite to future Republican candidate debates, and would likely be restricted from accessing party data on Republican voters.

If Trump is polling at twice the numbers of his closest challengers and as much as five times the numbers of seven of the top 10 candidates—which he is—then how could the RNC ban him from debates? Can that really be done?

The answer is yes. The RNC, just as the Democratic National Committee (DNC), is considered a private club. They make their own rules. The DNC isn’t holding a single debate until October—something that candidates like Martin O’Malley aren’t happy about. But there’s nothing they can really do.

Since many conservatives vote Republican to support our free-market, smaller-government agenda… This is sad news. The Republican Party needs to leave this critical decision up to voters. There is clearly a top front-runner (Donald Trump!) who is leading every poll by historic margins. He should be allowed to continue making his case and speaking freely… But The Donald MUST be allowed in every debate.

That’s exactly what will happen if they diss Trump. The GOPe, and the party will be dead, and that I will cheer. They really are that stupid, it’s their trademark. It’s past their expiration date.

Right now I am on the fence and definitely not sure about voting for the Donald. However, any such unfair effort to screw him will cause me to vote for him. In doing a vile thing like this the RNC will also be jeopardizing its entire grass roots funding raising operation, especially because most of its grass roots contributors are Tea Party members, just like me.

“Is this a trial balloon to see if the silent majority speaks up?”

Short answer: Yes.

It would be suicidal stupidity to ban Trump (and I don’t like him seeing a number of better choices IMO).

Sure was lots of “if and maybe” in the GOPe threat.
Never happen. Not even the GOPe is that stupid.

Fully expect several other participates, Cruz in particular to say “if Trump’s banned, they will stay away in protest”.

The stake through the heart of the GOP-e.

Not unless a lot of conservatives step up and run for the House and Senate in 2016. Otherwise Trump will have to deal with Democrats and RINO's. He'll have to govern by fiat.

He may have a gun, but it may not have any bullets. Several States, Texas and Ohio included, have laws that say if a candidate runs in a Party Primary, they are not later able to get on the ballot as a 3rd Party candidate.

Be pretty hard to win the General without being on all big state ballots.

Cruz should threaten to not attend if Trump is disallowed.

I hope more than Cruz would refuse to debate. It would make the debate meaningless.

No, the Donald said that he wants a 10M charitable donation given for his appearance in the debate. BIG difference.

With Trump at a debate EVERY GOP candidate gets a few million extra eyes on him... They'll never give that up. Why would they?
