Apparently global warming forces people to build in coastal areas.

"There's a hint that there has been enhanced troughy-ness over the Eastern U.S. So large scale, long term, it does seem like there is a little something there that may be able to steer some storms away from the States," McNoldy said.

But, he warns, this is a tiny deviation — a less than 1 percent change — in a long-term average. It means that on any given day or week, that measurement could have been different, able to steer a storm toward the East Coast.

Grasping at straws to save a failing theory, iow.

The formation of an eye just prior to landfall resulted in a slight increase in winds,[20] and at 0700 UTC on September 13, Ike made landfall on northern end of Galveston Island in Texas with a minimum barometric pressure of 950 mbar (hPa; 28.06 inHg) and sustained winds of 110 mph (175 km/h), making Ike a Category 2 hurricane.[24] After tracking inland, Ike weakened as it sped northward and later northeastward, weakening to tropical storm status east of Palestine, Texas late on September 13 and later becoming a powerful extratropical cyclone on September 14 over the Ozarks.[20] A more steady weakening phase ensued, and after tracking across southern Ontario and Quebec, the remnants of Ike were absorbed by another extratropical low near the St. Lawrence River, on September 15.[25]

Apparently, category is based on intensity rather than reach. Ike reached Cat 4 before it hit landfall in Texas.

They repeatedly refer to how "lucky" this has been for the US.

I disagree completely.

It is so "lucky" that the sunspot cycle is in its hibernation mode and the atmosphere and oceans have been cooling to a level that does not support so many storms.

like it is

The left refers to science as luck. No wonder they are clueless about the real world.

Growing up in the 70s and being educated by the then, socialist/Marxist public school system, I remember reading one of those weekly “scare the heck out of children” pamphlets we received in class during my elementary years, quotes from the greatest socialist/atheist scientific minds on global warming, that by 2010, we would be in a apocalypse survival mode, due to cataclysmic events worldwide. Well, no need to say anything further other than our world is a living planet as well as our solar system. Semper Fi
