It has come to this: The GOP, formerly the party of Lincoln and ostensibly the party of liberty and limited government, is being defined by clamors for a mass roundup and deportation of millions of human beings. To will an end is to will the means for the end, so the Republican clamors are also for the requisite expansion of governments size and coercive powers.
Most of Donald Trumps normally loquacious rivals are swaggeringly eager to confront Vladimir Putin but are too invertebrate Lindsey Graham is an honorable exception to voice robust disgust with Trump and the spirit of, the police measures necessary for and the cruelties that would accompany his policy. The policy is: Theyve got to go.
They, the approximately 11.3 million illegal immigrants (down from 12.2 million in 2007), have these attributes: Eighty-eight percent have been here at least five years. Of the 62 percent who have been here at least 10 years, about 45 percent own their own homes. About half have children who were born here and hence are citizens. Dara Lind of Vox reports that at least 4.5 million children who are citizens have at least one parent who is an illegal immigrant.
Trump evidently plans to deport almost 10 percent of Californias workers and 13 percent of that states K-12 students. He is, however, at his most Republican when he honors family values: He proposes to deport intact families, including children who are citizens. We have to keep the families together, he says, but they have to go. Trump would deport everyone, then have an expedited way of getting them [the good ones; when somebody is terrific] back. Big Brother government will identify the good and terrific from among the wretched refuse of other teeming shores.

Good. He GOP as it stands are traitors to us for the most part. We took our time to campaign, donate to and vote for them and then people like McConnell and Boehner just stab us in the back... repeatedly...

So, when the country is being invaded by America-hating thieves, murderers, baby rapers and gangbangers we shouldn’t try to stop the invasion because the illegals will vote for the DemoRATs? What happened to my country? There was a time when Americans wouldn’t stand for this foreigner bull****.
Lincoln and limited government it the same sentence? What?
I’ll bet there is 20 million in California, hell we have whole towns that are populated by illegals only.
Just recently a board member promoted illegals to 2 high ranking city positions.
If it weren’t for bad luck, George would have no luck at all.
The GOP, and our country for that matter, is doomed anyway if unlimited numbers of undocumented illegal alien 3rd world peasants continue to pour into this country every year.
I agree, George Will is a vulgarity to thinking people who can put together a sane thought... his inability to form a cohesive thought makes a thinking person lose his lunch...
When I was a kid I thought George Will was smart— maybe it was the glasses like Rick Perry that threw me off.
Will is, as always, an articulate intellectual. However, his logic is failing. Supporting the rule of law is the opposite of supporting, “the requisite expansion of governments size and coercive powers”.
FedGov already has the authority to deport illegals and to punish those who knowingly hire those criminals. We need a smaller government when the government of, by, and for the people only passes those laws it will enforce. We need a smaller government when those who disproportionately create demand for government services are removed from our government’s territory. We need fewer governmental powers when government exercises the powers it has uniformly and in accordance with written law.
No, thank you, George Will. I’ll take the rule of law combined with limited government, and I will not compromise on the idea that government should never reward criminal behavior.
If illegal aliens want legal status, they can go home and apply for legal entry. Otherwise, I want them apprehended, deported, and barred from any path to legal reentry or citizenship. The penalty for illegal presence in our country should be firm enough that criminals will voluntarily remove themselves from our territory.
Lets hope so! The GOP has doomed itself for about 3 decades now! Go get em Georgeie!
And George hasn't figured out he's on the losing end of this. Krauthammer has seen the light and has reeled in his vitriol a tad. That sound you hear is the GOP passing the collection plate to see if they can scrounge up enough scratch to get Trump to disappear.
George Will called folks who are followers of Donald Trump the following: Arrogant, angry, unwashed masses.
In return I would like to describe George Will as a narcissist who is so in love with himself and his beliefs that he even believes he has the knowledge and dexterity to pick up a turd by the clean end. Truth be known, Will does not care whether we are governed by a Democrat, or RINO Republican, as long as it is not a true Conservative Republican.
Ok, the unwashed part, I get that.
Pompous little turd.
I agree with you - What did he say here? That it’s not conservative to enforce the immigration law and it’s not conservative to enforce the money transmission laws. I submit that doing so is conservative, it is enforcement of the rule of law. Not doing so takes a subjective position by persons in a position to do so, that’s the rule of man.
