NAF Atsugi is several miles from the Sagamihara Depot. It is also separated from the Camp Zama Army base. My concern is that there used to be a large family housing area there. Don’t know if that is still the case or not.

It is not the NAF but it is the army storage depot.

No injuries per reports.

See my google map of the place. There is not only base housing to the west side, but there are houses and large apartment buildings all around the perimeter, and train tracks on the south side of the depot. There’s even a Japanese shrine right in the north center of the base

It might be true, and I hope it is, that there were zero deaths and casualties, but I won’t be surprised if there are many.

I’m sure all the ammo bunkers pointed up, but there were reports of explosive chemicals in the warehouses.

We’ll have to wait until the excitement dies down.
