Donald Trump Compares Himself to Billy Graham; Says 'My Favorite Book Is the Bible'
Christian Post ^ | 08/23/2015 | Anugrah Kumar

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump looked at the crowd gathered for his rally at a 40,000-seat college football stadium in Mobile, Alabama, saying he now knows how evangelist Billy Graham felt. He also said the book he likes the most is the Bible.

"I know how Billy Graham felt," Trump, a billionaire businessman, said, apparently jokingly, as he began his speech at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

Trump also said, "What's my favorite book? The Bible! The Bible. ... We take the Bible all the way," according to The Washington Post's national political reporter Robert Costa, who tweeted the Republican candidate's remarks.

Anticipating a big turnover, Trump's campaign had to change the venue at the eleventh hour, to the football stadium. Trump was planning to hold the rally at the Mobile Civic Center arena, which seats only about 10,000 people, according to Yahoo News.

His campaign, which was expecting a crowd of about 35,000 people at the rally Friday night, also arranged for free shuttle buses, according to Mobile Press-Register.

"We have politicians that don't have a clue," Trump, who was wearing a red hat with his slogan, "Make America Great Again," written on it, said. "They're all talk, no action. What's happening to this country is disgraceful."

The Republican frontrunner added: "We're running on fumes. There's nothing here. ... We're not going to have a country left. We need to have our borders. We need to make great deals."

Talking about illegal immigration, he said, "We've gotta stop it. We're going to build a wall."

"In the case of other countries, including Mexico, you can't walk over the border and have a new citizen," he added. "We're the only place just about that's stupid enough to do it."

At the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa last month, Trump was asked about his faith.

"People are so shocked when they find out I am Protestant. I am Presbyterian. And I go to church and I love God and I love my church," he said.

Asked whether he has ever asked God to forgive him, Trump responded, "I am not sure I have. I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don't think so. I think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I don't bring God into that picture. I don't."

He further explained, "When I drink my little wine — which is about the only wine I drink — and have my little cracker, I guess that is a form of asking for forgiveness, and I do that as often as possible because I feel cleansed. I think in terms of 'let's go on and let's make it right.'"

Talking to CNN later, Trump denied that his statements damaged his chances with Evangelical voters, and said his polling in Iowa is very strong. However, he added that he'd "change" his "tone" as president. "Right now I'm trying to do something to make this country great again."

Trump is as religious as Obama! Donald Trump also claims he knew Ronald Reagan. Let’s ask Mark Levin, what was Donald trump to Ronald Reagan? since Mark Levin served under Edwin Meece. And Donald Trump is no way in the caliber of General Patton, come now he my have the demeanor of general Patton, but remember Patton was taken to the woodshed many of time because he was outspoken, he slapped a coward in the face for shell shock, and he insulted the Russians. Eisenhower had to discipline Patton because of the slap to the face of the coward and for insulting the Russians. gentleman what we need is another Ike to slap Trump in the face

Lends to the idea that was discussed on other threads that Trump is Patton reincarnated.

I think Trump—who is OK with sodomite “marriage”—missed the parts about homosexuality being an abomination and marriage being between a man and a woman.

He wasn’t comparing himself to Billy Graham - he was talking about the size of the crowd. Duh - how ignorant people can be.

There is not another candidate running that would say that, with the possible exception of Cruz.

Cruz is confident, but he also has humility. Trump doesn't have a humble bone in his body. One day he's going to fall from his imaginary perch and the thud is going to very loud indeed.

On the one hand, he doesn’t get it. On the other hand, neither does anyone, until of course they do. So what? Pray for his soul. Pray for repentance. Be grateful that he retains enough common sense and perception of what is right and wrong to be a decent contender. I am glad he has a good attitude toward Christianity. We are not electing a theologian or a preacher.

What irks me more is someone who claims to be a Christian yet holds to all sorts of principles that are hostile to Christianity. Trump reminds me of how things used to be — how most people in this country used to feel toward Christianity whether they counted themselves among them or not. It is the appreciation of the judeo-christian ethic. That does not mean he has to have lived it perfectly. Everyone falls short. The question is, what is the standard.

I am saying that this statement from Trump:

"What's my favorite book? The Bible! The Bible. ... We take the Bible all the way,"

is among the most disingenuous, transparently-pandering statements I've ever heard from a politician.

Trump saying he UNDERSTOOD how Billy Graham felt (facing a stadium full of people) and talking about the Bible are from two different incidents.

In the case of his referring to The Bible, it was because he was at a FAMILY CONFERENCE meeting and HE WAS ASKED about his ‘faith’.

You can ask him if he can name one book in the Bible, but I’m pretty sure that even Obama can name one book of the Bible.
