You’re right. My friends and acquaintances are nearly uniform in their support of Trump for exactly the reasons you wrote. Some days I agree!
Mostly though, I’m uneasy about him. I’m a gal who was able to vote for Reagan twice, so clearly am “older”...but here’s the thing- I never wondered what Reagan believed or what drove him. He saw us as a great and good country and focused on giving us the chance to become more so.
Trump, instead, focuses on what a great and good guy HE is, and will therefore, MAKE us great again.
Reagan called to our best.
Trump calls us to him.
I’m getting a little long in the tooth as well, SE Mom. In Reagan’s time we were a different electorate. We still had some semblance of a national identity he could connect to and we felt that connection.
The electorate today is vastly different, each sub group wanting what is best for them and to hell with everybody else.
Trump calls out to those who know that our best days are behind us if we continue down the PC path to become good global citizens. He is far from perfect ... but his message is needed to stop the PC madness that is sapping our strength.
I understand where you are coming from. However, let me point this out to you - this is a different era we now live in. There will never be another Ronald Reagan. He was one of a kind. He made mistakes too - so,he wasn’t Mr. Perfect. Trump is calling us to his leadership - not necessarily himself. See the difference? He wants the American people behind him to support his ideas. He has built an empire and is confident in what he can do. So, I don’t think he’s trying to be a Jim Jones.
