According to author Jon Birger, you’re not imagining things. In “Date-onomics: How Dating Became a Lopsided Numbers Game,” out today, Birger, a former writer for Fortune and Money magazines, crunched demographic, census and other data to show that it really is historically rough out there for the ladies.

A good friend of mine is in the same boat as you. Very successful civil engineer who is now making a killing doing commercial development, about 45 years old. Never married. He was tired of bipolar women.
I was lucky as a good woman found me and stuck with me despite my shortcomings, and I have a few. But we are from an older generation. I wonder if I would have been as lucky if I’d been born 20 years later.
You left out how she should be making as much money as he is for “equal” work. After all, she works just as hard as an ironworker...
That’s because men don’t consider it down. Women must have the man who was muscle, money, tall, money, education, money, sensitive .... Anything less is down and they let the man know early on that’s it’s settling, then the man moves on.
In my part of the world I call them redneck princesses.
There is no upside to marriage for men. The women give it away for free.
Yes, a college-educated girl only wants to marry UP, to a man who earns more than her, but is not significantly older.
Meanwhile, college men are fine with marrying a girl who is pleasant company, even if she’s lower earning.
An electrician/plumber/HVAC man in NYC makes insane $ compared to what most people would consider white collar.
But she has a degree in International Studies from Smith and can't possibly hang around her old friends from college with a man like THAT...
I heard that word a lot from my first wife - deserve. I deserve a nice house, I deserve a nice car, I deserve a nice vacation, I deserve a spa treatment. I got to the point that word made me cringe. So when she stepped out I traded her for a good and newer model. Much newer ;). I deserved it.
Deserve has nothing to do with life. We deserve nothing.
Most of the top notch women are snapped up by the time they finish college.
What’s left ... is the leftover and rejects.
Men however often become more and more desirable in a multitude of ways as they age. So if possible they prefer to pick from the best available and often gravitate toward the college age girls, not because they are young so much as because there aren’t any top notch older women available.
My twenty-five year old grandson was just “dumped” by his second somewhat serious girlfriend. He has a great job, works very hard, his almost new truck is paid for, his home will be paid for in about ten years, at his current payment rate, he has no other debts, attends church, can cook, is clean, knows how to dress up, has lots of interests and saves a percentage of his check every month. But he “only” had a degree from a community college and works on a farm versus the girls he has met who have aspirations of being married to a stock broker or attorney,all of them have college degrees and either want to have one child much later or none at all. I keep telling him there is someone out there for him, just continue to pray about it.
Quite frankly, if the 20-something group that I’ve met is representative of what is out there now, seems to me that you both are better off without them as they really have very little to offer.
LOL, I wondered about the bulge in the man’s pants.
A member of my extended family....wife had a high paying job in the medical field. Always berated him about how he couldn’t keep up and was not successful enough. Splitsville.
Start with Huffington Post articles advising women on how to handle relationships, and follow the trail from there.

Women want the man with the MBA but won’t date the guy because he works at Starbucks. Women want the Dom Perignon, the fast shiny car but don’t realize an apartment with a bedroom in Manhattan is 4k a month.
Women don’t want the balding, slightly overweight and hairy guy. They want the product using dude who has the body of a 14 year old high school football player.
Girls want the whole package and failing to find it look to blame others for their misconception of reality. We call those people liberals.

Once I overheard a conversation between two clerks in the menswear department at Sears over which one of them had the superior college degree.....yeah.
