Cameras are very tricky when it comes to perceived distance. You could be 20 feet away and to the camera it looks like 3 feet.

That’s weird. It looks like, from his perspective, that he’s standing only a few feet away. Yet from the first video from the cameraman’s view, he’s several feet away before he starts shooting.

Amongst other things camera angles can fool you on perceived sizes of objects. An example is the piece of wing they found from the downed 777 off the coast of Africa. One photo looks like the piece is 4 feet long, another photo angle makes it looks like it is 8 feet long. Both myself and my father were watching the news when that was found and were scratching our heads thinking they had found two different pieces.

Based on the distances between the victims in the approach video frames, I’d guess he was between 4-5 feet from the reporter when he opened fire and point blank to the cameraman.
