This sudden rise of Donald Trump is nothing new. Through the ages the cult of personality forms around a assertive, narcissistic person who declares a solution to a difficult problem. The instinct to follow the herd is strong in most people.

Highly educated Germans followed a bold leader over the cliff.

Hard working, family oriented Italians followed their leader into war.

Religious Venezuelans hoping to improve their lives voted in a dictator.

Ordinary Americans filled with dreams of hope and change voted for an image, not a man.

In advertising and politics image is everything. It's disturbing to find the herd mentality on Freerepublic.

Not surprised, when you have two political parties that pretty much have become a new “uniparty”.

Also not much alternates out there, that is another reason for interest in Mr. Trump.
