I hope that one day soon Americans will treat all immigrants, including the 11 million undocumented residents already living in the United States, with the same largess that I experienced when I arrived here.

An interesting choice of words, largess. Here is the first definition that popped up:

generosity in bestowing money or gifts upon others.

So we should bestow money or gifts to those that come here? I like the old romantic, notion of the humble immigrant coming to America and making tehre way to the dream, raising their children as Americans, and doing their best to learn the language, etc. That cannot happen if largess is part of the picture.
