White House pushes for Iran filibuster
Politico ^ | August 27, 2015 | Edward-Isaac Dovere and Burgess Everett

President Barack Obama’s almost certain to get the Iran nuclear deal — but whether he gets there by filibuster or sustained veto could make all the difference. A Democratic filibuster in the Senate would be a clear victory for the president, allowing Obama to say that for all the political noise there wasn’t enough actual opposition to the nuclear agreement with the Islamic republic to even get to a final vote.

This is what happens when we hear repeated cries of “Any Republican is better than any Democrat” - with demands that “if you love this country, you will vote for this RINO because they are not as horrible as the “D” they are running against.

Sorry - but I have let my tagline up for several years as a reminder of this fact... If you vote for a candidate strictly because of the “R” beside their name - then don’t open your stupid mouth when they are the proven RINO/Anti-American scumbag they were when you voted for them!

There are several running to be the GOP nominee for POTUS this time around... and several - I refuse to cast a vote for - no matter who they are running against. I vowed in 2008 to not vote for a RINO... so the media and idiots gave us McLame. I held my nose and cast a vote for him, mostly after being guilted into it by folks, including the idiots here on FR (so much for “Conservatives”). Then in 20012 - we had it all over again... and one-by-one, those with any genuine Conservative creds were weeded out (again, thanks to the media and some folks right here on FR who pontificated on “electability” over principal) and that got us Romney - another RINO of epic proportions...

And the same has gone across this nation in Congressional races - we even saw the GOP establishment work directly AGAINST Conservative Republican candidates... then refusing to help them when their RINO didn’t get the nomination... leaving the genuine Conservatives to fend for themselves against well-funded Democrats...

If the GOP insists on repeatedly cramming LibeRals down our throats, it is PAST time for the GOP to DIE OFF - to go the way of the Whigs....And quite honestly, my faith tells me that God is in control, no matter what letter is listed beside a candidate’s name. So - I will vote my heart, my faith, and my conscience from this point forward. And given no candidate worthy of a vote that will honor God and the principals this nation was founded on - then I will choose to not vote. I refuse to cast my lot with a known evil or traitor.

Our government at its finest, if head muslim doesn't get his own way then he treathens...

Course we know the whole senate and house will bow down and kiss his butt...

I can't wait for Trump to become President and erase the last 8 years of a phony american, kenyan, foreign exchange student, muslim brotherhood president and a slime ball...

When was the last REAL filibuster? Rand Paul had a personal one here a bit ago - but it only lasted as long has his physical ability. He got no real help - so it wasn’t a real filibuster.

Too many life-long career politicians have cheapened the filibuster. AT one time - it required speakers to continually occupy the floor - no breaks, no “vote for cloture”... you simply would not give up the floor. There are records of filibusters going on for genuine extended periods of time...

But with a bunch of weak-bladder, prostate-hardened, traitors with no backbone...

What a wonderful, utopian dream world you live in. If you REALLY think Trump would fix anything of significance, you are sadly mistaken (mislead, deceived, etc.).

Indeed - why is Trump in this at all? It is because he sees a profit. Period. Trump does nothing if it doesn't boost his wallet. Trump is in a no-lose position. If he runs and is defeated - he wins - money will continue to pour in. If he wins... then his stock goes even higher. Historically, Trump has been no champion of Conservatism - not by a LONG shot, often falling squarely on the opposite side of the political fence. He is a consummate business man - he knows how to sell - and that is exactly what his current schtick is - a huge sales pitch (I call it a SCAM). He is pressing all the current hot-button issues and doing it loudly. Don't believe anything he says is his genuine position. A salesman will say what is necessary to close the sale.

I don't believe that a majority of the congress can take from 1/3 of the Senate their constitutional right to reject a treaty. If this were the case, then a majority could pass constitutional amendments on their own by passing a law, or get around the supermajority requirements in any number of situations.

Cruz or Lee should call for a vote on the TREATY, and ask the chair for a ruling that it has failed when it can't get 34 votes. If McConnell blocks this, then it becomes Cruz's basis for a suit to prevent it being considered legally valid.

So let’s ask McConnell to insist on a REAL filibuster.

As far as I am concerned, the GOP is worse than the demonrat party, because the GOP is the one that has lied directly to me, telling me that they are someone whom they are clearly not.

I will entertain their lies no longer.

A plan! He would have standing for a Supreme Court challenge, right? What do you think the vote of the nine justices would be? Could they get 6 to 3?

I can speak only from my own experience, but that said, I see something profound happening to the American culture. People around me no longer watch or listen to news shows. They have been detaching, slowly but seriously, from what the Obama culture has created in the country. They have largely withdrawn from many or most contacts with the outside world and instead are ever more family or personal group centered. They no longer believe most of what the government is saying. They are ever more cautiously pessimistic about the near future and react by preparing more seriously for a major calamity or other upheaval. A look on Amazon shows an ever growing audience for catastrophe science fiction and prepping for disaster. The contortions of the stock markets this past week prove to them that not only is all not well, but that all is either being manipulated by those who care not for the average person or those who intend to harm them for their own profit.

Even during the Vietnam War, I never observed such a cultural shift.

“I’m so over these sh**bags.”

According to McConnell, they will let Obama have this and will get it next time. That’s all I have heard from this fool for 6 years.

Who knows what the SC would say about standing on this, as their opinions lately have nothing to do with actual meanings of words and the law. But you would think that a senator who is denied his right to be one of 34 Senators to reject a bad treaty would have standing. The issue that proponents of this Munich agreement would argue is that it is an “executive agreement”. History and practice are strong that it is not, it is a treaty, but the courts are a wild card these days.

So true about the courts. They also don’t give a flip about what the framers would have thought of such transparent trifling. “Oh piffle, just call it something else.”

Provided Iran doesn’t move as fast as Hitler did before WWII. In which case, there won’t be time to know what hit us. - IF Hitler had gotten the bomb first; does anyone doubt he would have used it? or that it would have resulted in him being crowned King of the World at that time?
