Cotton Statement on Reports that Harry Reid may Filibuster Senate Vote on the Iran Nuclear Deal
cotton.senate.gov ^ | Tuesday, August 25, 2015 | Senator Tom Cotton

Posted on 08/28/2015 4:47:22 PM PDT by Dave346

Washington, D.C.— Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) today released the following statements on reports that Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid may filibuster a Senate vote on the Iran Nuclear Deal:

“First, the president did an end-run around the Constitution by refusing to submit the Iran deal as a treaty requiring a two-thirds vote of the Senate for approval. Now Harry Reid wants to deny the American people a voice entirely by blocking an up-or-down vote on this terrible deal. If Harry Reid has his way, Congress won’t even get the little oversight we were provided in Corker-Cardin. He is obstructing because he is scared. He knows that a majority of Americans and Senators oppose this dangerous deal, and that its only chance for survival is if he and the president ram it down the throats of the American people. The Congress and the president should speak with one voice when it comes to dealing with the Iranians, but it seems that Harry Reid believes that only his and the president’s voices matter.”

Time to pressure McConnell.

He needs to understand that we’re not screwing around, and that he’s toast if he doesn’t provide all of the opposition possible to stop the Iran deal.

Trump should vow to undermine Mitch’s leadership position if he fails in this effort.

Obama can't do anything about it. Article II Section 2 gives the Senate the power to ratify treaties. Separation of powers gives the Senate in advice and consent the power to declare on its own authority what is and isn't a treaty. That's what "advice" means.

Well, I appreciate your expertise.

But Obama supposedly can’t do a lot of things he’s done.

I think you and I both know that the Republican Congress won’t do anything about the Iran Treaty or any other whim Obama decides is next on his gimme list.

And if the Senate can’t get the 60 votes to stop the filibuster, what chance do they have at getting the 67 to override the veto?

“This strategy has been working just fine for Reid & Obama”

You left out the most critical part of the Reid & Obama strategy — the Republicans working with Reid & Obama. That is what is making it all possible. Obama’s agenda cannot happen without Republican help. Impossible.

Yawn. If there was a real opposition party who played by the same rules the Dems do, this capitulation would have been nothing more than a passing conversation..

Boy do I ever second that. The GOPE could do exactly what Reid did to the filibuster rules - but NO they are afraid of their own shadow.

The only Republicans getting my vote are at the state, county and city level. What is the point of sending Republicans to the District of Corruption - even when the RATS lose they still win. I would say that Obumbler and his party have been spectacularly successful in the past 7 years of TRANSORMING America - and they are no where near complete.

Perfect time to change the rules .... remember how some scum sucking dog (can you say Reid) did to get His Arrogance’s communists, perverts, and fools appointed.

All U.S. Senators except Cotton voted to give up the 2/3rd s majority needed for approval of the Iran deal:

All senators voted for this Corker bill. Only Cotton voted no

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2015/07/forget_obamarepublicans_made_the_iran_nukes_deal_possible.html

ditto for TPA empowering Obama trade.

Now they say they are against the Iran deal after voting to make it unstoppable.

They voted for it before they were against it. Typical . The goal to make it pass then put on an act saying they are against it.

To top it off the idiot Cotton passed his bill to give the senate’s oversight away. What a Clymer!

Excuse me? Are you confusing Corker and Cotton? Cotton was the only Senator with the stones to oppose the Corker bill. Best you explain this or you're the dirt bag here.

Is giving $150,000,000,000 to Iran to FUND its threat to bring “Death to America!” SERIOUS?

Serious enough to “nuke” the Senate’s “filibuster rule” and thereby protect America from Iran’s shiny new nukes?

Over to you, Mitch....

The president is a tyrant. We know it. And the GOPe knows it.

The difference is, they’re on his team.
