A Colorado appellate court ruled earlier this month that Jack Phillips, the evangelical owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in suburban Denver, had violated the rights of a gay couple when he declined on religious grounds to design and bake a custom wedding cake for them in 2012 -- two years before same-sex marriage was even legal in the state. (The couple had actually married in Massachusetts.) The court ordered Phillips to take remedial measures, including comprehensive staff training on how conscientious objection must give way to antidiscrimination law in these situations, and to file quarterly compliance reports with the state on this mandated retraining.
In July, the Commissioner of the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries upheld fines of $135,000 against another small bakeshop, Sweet Cakes by Melissa near Portland, and its devout Christian owners, Aaron and Melissa Klein, for declining to bake a cake for a lesbian commitment ceremony in 2013. (As in Colorado, same-sex marriage was not yet legal in Oregon at the time.) Commissioner Brad Avakian, regularly met and communicated with a gay rights group supporting the lesbian complainants while their case was pending before his department, publicly expressed sympathy for their position, and told the press that the goal is to rehabilitate the Kleins. Perhaps in the service of this rehabilitation his decision imposed not only crippling financial penalties but a gag order designed to stop them from making statements such as this fight is not over. We will continue to stand strong. Meantime, protests outside the bakery forced it to close, though Melissa still operates a smaller business out of their home while Aaron supports their five children by working as a trash collector.

Get the government out of marriage.
Indeed. Government should be out of the marriage business.
People who can not discriminate, are not free.
It ain't gonna happen.
How about instead if the government gets out of forcing secularism on everyone?
Gay judges gone wild.
What is it with judges and these bizarre made up gag orders? And who on earth would respect them?
4 words:
“I will not comply.”
This is state-sponsored terrorism. It is like in the early days of Nazi Germany, where Nazi thugs and corrupt officials shut down Jewish-owned businesses.
Does Mr. Phillips have any rights, or did he surrender them when he established a productive business and began paying taxes?
In Obergefell the Supreme Court stepped so far beyond it's authority that its opinion must be ignored by the States and the People.
If the judicial branch wants to function as a legislative branch, then it needs to be limited in the same manner- limited terms of office and subject to elections by the people. Fabricating wholesale fraud such as gay marriage and abortion does not constitute a legitimate function of judicial power either.
No. Fight the courts, break the gays' strategy (from the very start, >30 years ago) of using the courts to impose their will on the People, and impeach and remove Justice Kennedy for bad faith in legal argument, specifically, legal positivism, viz. deciding the outcome in advance based on other (biased) criteria and then arguing to the desired end without respect to the Constitution.
The Left has used the Supreme Court as a hammer against the rest of us for 75 years and more; and now the basic constitutional problem has to be addressed, before they argle-bargle us down into penal servitude for our beliefs.
They're cooked up with a lot of legal theorizing about why we good guys need Relief A and Relief B and Relief C from the evil bad guys who've been using the Republic to crush down our Crowns of Creation since 1792.
The homopleaders write it all out for them and lead the judges by the nose to exactly what the homopleaders want.
