Those were the times we had to walk uphill to post on FR, BOTH ways. aaahhhh, yup.

Sometimes in the early days it was just me and JimRob tending the fire on the boiler that kept the generator going.

That, and getting up before dawn to milk the Viking Kitties...

Irrespective of a budget crisis, the state spends way too much money. I feel for “autistic kids” but their parents should pay for their treatment, not Illinois taxpayers. Why should we complain about cuts like that?

48 grand extra for high level staff is nickels and dimes in the grand scheme of the state budget, the deficit is what, 4 billion?. The explanation that he wants a better class of people of working for him, people that were making more in the private sector and not willing to work for what Quinn’s people, (likely all career government bureaucrats among which you are unlikely in this state to find non-scumbags) were working for is perfectly satisfactory to me.

I’m not sure why Rauner is the focus of your ire on this, he didn’t cause the budget crisis and he appears to be trying to do what he can about it. It’s the democrats who aren’t co-operating by refusing to accept the positive changes he wants. Do you side with Madigan on this?

I read some state museums are the on the chopping block, sad, even that’s a drop in the bucket. He’s trying to pressure the rats by getting people pissed off at them, seems like an apt course of action to me.

What’s he to do? Cut an insignificant amount of money from his staff budget? That would change nothing and could result in a worse staff less able to help him do his job properly, which again, appears to me to be what he’s trying to do. What would you do as Governor? I’d be thrilled to work on your staff for 98 K a year but people with the expertise to help you that aren’t committed socialist bureaucrats may not.

If a rat Governor cut his staff budget, we’d call it meaningless symbolism, which is what it would be.

Are you just looking for a reason to justify your opposition to Rauner’s election? I can’t say I regret voting for him one bit. Certainly not because of a piddling issue like his staff budget.

*Shrug*

I failed to address your argument about the positions being useless, I don’t see why he has them then, seems to me the people in them could be making more in the private sector so I’d rule out mere cronyism.

Let’s say they are totally worthless and this is an act of corruption, which I don’t believe, it’s still an insignificant amount of money and the last 3 Governors were much more corrupt than that.

BTW I just read he claims his overall office budget is lower than Quinn’s as he has less staff, even if a handful at the top are making more. Well then?

Seems to me the liberal media are the only people harping on this, I presume to hurt him and help Madigan.
