Sowell: A Revealing Clue
Creators Syndicate ^ | September 1, 2015 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 08/31/2015 1:20:16 PM PDT by jazusamo

Even those of us who are not supporters of either Donald Trump or Jeb Bush can learn something by comparing how each of these men handled people who tried to disrupt their question-and-answer period after a speech.

After Bush's speech, hecklers from a group called "Black Lives Matter" caused Bush to simply leave the scene. When Trump opened his question-and-answer period by pointing to someone in the audience who had a question, a Hispanic immigration activist who had not been called on simply stood up and started haranguing.

Trump told the activist to sit down because someone else had been called on. But the harangue continued, until a security guard escorted the disrupter out of the room. And Jeb Bush later criticized Trump for having the disrupter removed!

What kind of president would someone make who caves in to those who act as if what they want automatically overrides other people's rights — that the rules don't apply to them?

Trump later allowed the disrupter back in, and answered his questions. Whether Trump's answers were good, bad or indifferent is irrelevant to the larger issue of rules that apply to everyone. That was not enough to make "The Donald" a good candidate to become President of the United States. He is not. But these revealing incidents raise painful questions about electing Jeb Bush to be leader of the free world. The Republican establishment needs to understand why someone with all Trump's faults could attract so many people who are sick of the approach that Jeb Bush represents.

No small part of the internal degeneration of American society has been a result of supposedly responsible officials caving in to whatever group is currently in vogue, and allowing them to trample on everyone else's rights.

I loved Trump’s comments about Bernie Sanders when BLM overran him as he was trying to speak. Trump asked how Sanders could defend the country if he couldn’t defend his microphone? Good question.

No small part of the internal degeneration of American society has been a result of supposedly responsible officials caving in to whatever group is currently in vogue, and allowing them to trample on everyone else's rights.

A painful truth.

We have pretty much been electing weaklings and punk cowards since at least the 1960s.

Childish college protesters were permitted to take over campi all over the country to protest the Viet Nam war. When they occupied offices they should have been arrested and sent to jail for trespassing and then expelled for bad behavior.

The squeaky wheel should not get the grease when it breaks the law and our leaders should know the difference.

People who are rude should not be listened to and should not get to speak over those who are observing polite decorum.

And people who are speaking for the amnesty of aliens who break the law in entering the United States should be told that they are fools.

The ONLY time the Bush family shows guts, is when they try to ran amnesty down our throats.

Why? Sowell on Trump, Aug 4 “Donald Trump has virtually no chance of becoming even the Republican Party’s candidate in 2016, much less being elected President of the United States.”

Dr. Sowell is over 80 and has previously stated that he’s too damn grumpy for political life. Dr. Williams is well on his 70s.

I agree, though, that we need someone who understands economic reality.

I hear you...If only either were 15 to 20 years younger and could be convinced to run.

Thomas is too much of a gentleman to get involved with the corrupt nature of Washington at the level of leadership. Walter, on the other hand, would run rough shod over the lot of them! YES, we want Walter Williams —who understands economics better than anyone now in office— to be the Republican candidate. Unfortunately, he too is too smart to get tangled up with the criminal element that is Washington DC, so we will have to look elsewhere to find a masochist for the job. The Donald will do in that regard, and he will be all out of gum and there to kick a$$ and expel frauds.

I thought the exact same thing when I read the piece. As many have surmised, Trump's press conference with Ramos may have been similar to Reagan's "I paid for this microphone, Mr Green!" moment.

He opened a lot of eyes with his masterful handling of Ramos. People who had previously dismissed him, are now paying attention. The next batch of polls and how he handles the next debate will be interesting to see.

That says more about you than it does about Dr. Sowell, the greatest living American intellectual.

Read a few of Sowell’s writings on Trump. Keeps saying no but doesn’t explain. I find it odd.

I have been disappointed as of late with Dr. Sowell. I suppose positions do change one step at a time.

Thanks for the post. BTTT.
