there are some storms a-brewin'.

And, Although none of them have made landfall, they're making part of the Pacific Ocean near Hawaii resemble a Van Gogh painting.

three hurricanesNOAA

Here's a photo showing hurricanes Kilo, Ignacio, and Jimena from left to right. This is the first time three Category 4 storms have been seen in central and eastern Pacific Ocean at one time, according to The Weather Channel. Category 4 hurricanes have wind speeds anywhere from 130-156 miles per hour.

Hurricanes are categorized primarily by wind speeds. the higher the sustained wind speed, the stronger the hurricane. A category 1 hurricane has winds up to 74-95 mph, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says they are typically expected to cause some damage to buildings as well as power outages for a few days. A category 4 hurricane is considered catastrophic, with severe damage to buildings and power outages for weeks if not months.

http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/cyclone.html

>>>Hurricanes, cyclones, and typhoons are all the same weather phenomenon; we just use different names for these storms in different places. In the Atlantic and Northeast Pacific, the term “hurricane” is used. The same type of disturbance in the Northwest Pacific is called a “typhoon” and “cyclones” occur in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean.<<<

Oh, THAT is so cool! Now I can leave that up and my NOAA radar map of the USA and life will be perfect for this Weather Geek! :)

Hawaii sure is in the middle of nowhere, isn’t it? Hard to believe Captain Cook managed to stumble upon it back in 1778!

You can ‘grab’ the globe and tilt it any which way. I’m gonna play with that for a while. If y’all feel like you’re falling off the Earth, it’s just me, LOL!

Usually its the authors who play that role.

Why not, before the article author wrote the piece, check with how much volcanic activity has been happening, from Siberia down to Indonesia, since it is a known fact that one mote of dust creates a droplet of water. You put more matter in the air, you get more action.

Don’t forget, as the newspeople have done so conveniently, that mess at Fukushima, and the goo going into the ocean is still ongoing.

The solution to all this scary climate change - pony up more taxes to the UN and the Democrat party!

Yeah, that’ll take care of the problem that us Earthlings have caused. We’ll all be dirt poor but hey, it’s for the children.

Richard Dana in Two Years Before the Mast talks about old timers in pre-gold Rush California saying they used to have big storms hit the California coast from the south. One reason California was so isolated was because of the difficulty of sailing to it from Mexico—against the prevailing northwest wind—and the lack of harbor shelter from these southern storms. But then the climate changed (as apparently it is wont to do) and the southern storms—hurricanes— became forgotten on the west coast.

It has more. You can zoom with a wheeled mouse

Click on "earth" and get a menu of choices including wind speeds at different altitude pressure equi9valents. And more!

(Click on "Earth" to get the menu to disappear.)

Oh, I know. Thanks.

However, they have been called ‘hurricanes’ in the last few years when they surge into the Pacific side of Mexico and California.

Just not right...

Was a young guy on one of the weather stations that seemed positively orgasmic when reporting on then Hurrican Erika. When it got downgraded you could hear the lump in his throat the next day.

It's Dick Cheney's fault.

Patrick Fitzgerald's campaign to send Cheney to prison failed, so Cheney has remained free to work his sinister influence on the world's weather.
