Russian jets take to Syrian skies to combat IS
Russia begins military intervention against IS in Syria; IS closes in on Damascus
Russian fighter pilots, jets and helicopters will begin arriving in Syria in the coming days to join in the offensive against the Islamic State (IS) and rebel-aligned targets within the failing state Israeli news site Ynet News reported Monday.
According to Western diplomats, Russian expeditionary forces have already arrived in Syria to set up camp in an Assad-controlled airbase near Damascus, and will operate as a Russian forward operating base.
Thousands of Russian military personnel are set to arrive in Syria over the coming weeks, including instructors, advisors, logistics personnel, technical personnel, members of the aerial protection division, and the pilots who will operate the aircraft said Ynet.
While the exact make-up the expeditionary force is unconfirmed, past reports had stated that Russia was in talks to sell Syria a package of MiG-29 fighter jets, and Yak-130 trainer jets which can also operate as attack aircraft. The new presence of Russian pilots operating combat missions over Syria is expected to drastically challenge the dynamics of the region.
According to Ynet the Russians main goal is combating IS and preserving Assad's rule. They do not have offensive intentions towards Israel or other sovereign states in the area however, their presence will challenge the Israeli Air Force's previous freedom of operation in Middle East airspace.

There is a difference. Iranians are not Arabs and are not Sunni Muslims.
While all Muslims are are bad - it seems modern history has shown that the Sunni branch of the Muslim tree is much more bloody insane than the Shiite branch.

Lots of times these things are just picked up on some nut’s blog that claims to have “insider” sources.
It's difficult trying to get this across to the feeble-minded among us, particularly with all the FR Putinistas, paid or otherwise, confusing people with their BS.
I think Russia has been standing by waiting for the bad boys to deplete each other’s resources, then they will move in for the easy pickings, pleading that the chaos is a threat to regional stability. They have to move while Obama is still there to facilitate.
The Chinese are also talking about joining the effort in Syria against ISIS, and will likely send in their forces to assist soon.
Don’t forget the Chinese. They are also allied with Assad and are sending assets.
My guess would be that Europe is finally waking up to the nightmare migration from the Mideast and northern Africa, and only Russia has the military to clean ISIS out of civilized areas.
Perfect summary of current state of current ME affairs, resulting from our ill conceived schemes.

Russia has been settling Sunni hash in the middle east since the time of the tsars. It’s their natural and proper function as the regional superpower and Orthodox big brother looking out for Christians in the Levant — something the US has never cared about, unless to bring down genocide on them.

Well stated. Russia will prove to be a far more formidable foe than the primitive ISIS barbarians. Russia has been building a strong alliance with the ChiComs. They've been staging joint military games in preparation for war with the West.
