Ukraine’s far-right menace
POLITICO ^ | 9/1/15 | LEV GOLINKIN

On Monday, an eerily familiar scene in the streets of Kiev heralded a dangerous new phase in the Ukraine crisis. Once again, riot police faced angry demonstrators who claimed that the government was betraying their country; once again, blood spilled on the pavement, resulting in at least one death and over 100 injuries.

This time, however, the players’ roles had shifted. The ones fighting the government were grenade-wielding members of Svoboda and Right Sector, radical militants who had, until that point, been allied with Kiev. Their target was the democratically elected, Western-leaning government of Petro Poroshenko which is working on decentralization legislation mandated by the Minsk II agreement

The uneasy alliance between Kiev and Ukraine’s ultranationalists stretches back to the beginning of the Ukraine conflict. Neo-Nazi organizations such as Svoboda, Patriot of Ukraine and the Social-Nationalist Assembly (SNA) did not form the heart of the Maidan uprising, as Moscow propaganda has claimed.

They were there, but on the outskirts, ghosting alongside peaceful Ukrainians who came out to support Westernization and rally against corruption. When the protests turned violent, however, far-right groups stepped in to provide security to the demonstrators; when rebellion broke out in the east, the ultranationalists led the fight against the separatists.

The Ukrainian parliament majority showed cracks on Tuesday after a right-wing party said it was exiting the coalition over a measure to give more powers to Ukrainian regions, including the rebel-held east.

The announcement from the Radical Party of Oleh Lyashko, which came in fifth in last year’s election, came on the day that two more National Guard officers died from injuries suffered in a grenade explosion, bringing the death toll to three from Monday’s clashes between nationalists and police outside Ukraine’s parliament.

McGruff is one of the FR Putinistas. Don't know if he's getting paid, or just has a strange fondness for the guy.

The Kremlin’s Troll Army: Moscow is financing legions of pro-Russia Internet commenters:

A June article by Max Seddon of BuzzFeed reported the Kremlin was spending millions of dollars to pay English-speaking Russians to promote President Vladimir Putin and his policies in U.S. media like Fox News broadcasting and The Huffington Post and Politico news sites. Trolls are reportedly expected to manage multiple fake accounts and post on news articles 50 times a day, often with sentiments as simplistic as “Putin makes Obama look stupid and weak!”

They do this only in an attempt to win the trust of anti-Obama folks -- a clever/sneaky way to add credibility to their pro-Russia, pro-Putin BS.
Yet it seems to work on some of us! In reality, Obama is the best thing that has happened to Russia in a long time.

Didn’t the current Kiev gov depend on the Nazi-type right wingers to over-throw the government? And now those who did the fighting object to being pushed aside. It’s what happened in every country where those who wanted to overthrow a government used proxy fighters, then thought they could push them aside.

Back in June Poroshenko petitioned the supreme court of Ukraine to recognize that the overthrow of Yanukovych was illegal.

Which was an extraordinary step for Yanukovych’s successor to take - but it makes (some) sense if Poroshenko is trying to prevent a second coup by the same people who put him into power.

Yes they did. They relied on them for the attempted ethnic cleansing in the East as well. Perhaps they have outlived their usefulness in this sickening Soros/Obama/Neocon putsch.

They are swarming this time of a year. Just put some anti-Ukrainian garbage in your favorite trap, they will be all over.
I think Freepers had already learned to ignore them.

What do you mean by ethnic cleansing in the east of Ukraine. The only people being ethnically cleansed there are ethnic Ukrainians. The Ukrainian nationalists are not against the Russian speaking people, many of them are Russian speaking. They are for the independent and territorially integral Ukrain. And, yes, they are against Putin’s aggression.
