The Wall Street Journal and Wisconsin Watchdog disclosed that the staff of the Government Accountability Board was engaged in partisan calculations during an investigation into the activities of the Wisconsin Club for Growth and various citizens.
Kevin Kennedy responded to the disclosure with a statement that GAB staff members feel passionately about ensuring that all parties comply with campaign finance laws.
Passionate is a strong word; here is the dictionary.com definition:
Passionate: having, compelled by, or ruled by intense emotion or strong feeling; fervid.
And this is the dictionary.com definition of its opposite:
Dispassionate: free from or unaffected by passion; devoid of personal feeling or bias; impartial; calm.
If we are to pay for an election watchdog passionate about anything, how about some passion for liberty and the rule of law?
After defending passionate behavior in his agency, Kennedy then delivered a line that requires careful parsing.
The multi-year, multimillion-dollar John Doe proceeding was not an enforcement action. It was an investigation co-owned by GAB. Kennedy endorses his passionate staff, and has not apologized for his partisan investigation. My role and the Board Members role is to ensure that the enforcement decisions are nonpartisan, Kennedy said.
It was an investigation that seized millions of emails from the private accounts of dozens of innocent citizens; it raided family homes in the dark; it produced and released affidavits smearing innocent people; and it was all conducted without foundation in reason or law, according to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
But the GAB board never voted for an enforcement action. So what?
Kevin Kennedy should be fired immediately. And the legislature should begin an investigation into GAB, which trumpets transparency for others while concealing its own actions from the legislature and the people.
OKeefe is director of the Wisconsin Club for Growth. He was a target of the John Doe investigation.
TOO GABBY? Kevin Kennedy, director and general counsel of Wisconsins Government Accountability Board, says his agencys excesses are a result of passion. The state Supreme Court recently ordered the group to shut down its secret investigation of conservative activists.
One of the targets of the unconstitutional John Doe witch hunt calls for Kevin Kennedy’s firing.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
I’ve seen better faces on a Bassett Hound that this guy’s!
Forget how he looks — I’ve found him to be incompetent, or to deliberately give bad advice and then deny it. I learned that 20 years ago from personal experience when I was running a local poll watching group.
Old news....
Nothing is going to happen.

I think the whole concept of the “Accountability Board” has it’s roots in the RAT abuse system that exists to keep them illegally in power. The idea that the state government suborns this kind of patently illegal activity is chilling. You owe Walker and his people a debt of gratitude for what they’ve done, right down to screwing that old Bolshevik who’s one of your Supreme Court “justices” out of her chair as Chief “justice.”
“One of the targets of the unconstitutional John Doe witch hunt calls for Kevin Kennedys firing.”
FIRING? He needs to go to jail, along with everyone else connected with that criminal activity! The only was Wisconsin is going to have any chance of having a government “of the people” is to prosecute all of these people and give them sufficiently long prison terms, that anyone else will have second thoughts about ever trying this stuff again!
Believe me — most of us are grateful. Some of us have short and fickle memories.
