...isn't always about money, it is about long term survival. We need to hit these bastards while they are down...

OK, let's see where we are.

China's down so our factories are getting fewer orders and that's hurting our manufacturing ability. What I'm getting from your post is that for us too survive we need to hit China while they're down and the best way to do that is for our government to raise our taxes and take control of how we spend our wealth. .

This can't be what we want here.

CHINA ALREADY TARIFFS IMPORTS FROM THE USA SO THEY CAN’T RETALIATE. SO THREATEN THEM NOW WITH RETALIATORY TARIFFS ( AND MEAN IT) SO THEY DROP THEIR TARIFFS ON US. NOW IS THE TIME TO PUT ON THE PRESSURE, IT IS CALLED THE ART OF THE DEAL, INSTEAD OF BEND OVER AND SQUEAL.

Years ago a huge % of my savings was in bond funds but over time it got harder and harder to justify that sector. True, there are short periods of time where bonds “aren’t as bad as stocks” but for me knowing we were going into those times beforehand was never all that easy.

Some how it's hard to believe that anyone here misses the fact that higher taxes make it so we have less money for ourselves to buy stuff and hire people.

Oh, I agree with everything you say.

My point is that the Obama administration keeps issuing fictitious growth data telling us that the economy is growing.

If the economy is growing why is manufacturing output falling? Why are real incomes stagnant or falling?

Correct me if I'm mistaken but I do believe we've been hearing that for a long time now, that that China didn't just raise those taxes on imports last month causing a drop in our factory orders this month.   So if those chicom import taxes you're referring to have been around a while and they were low enough that they haven't prevented buying U.S. exports, then that would mean we could in fact hurt ourselves by starting an import tax war.

My bad, I didn't realize that not all the voices were singing from the same hymnal.  You're right to want to look hard at our wonderful recovery (/sarc):and what's happening w/ our industrial output:

We see how America took a huge hit after the election of '08 and for years now we've been struggling to climb back up out of the hole.  So finally at the beginning of this year we peak up to an all time high only to begin fading back down again.  So back in '08 the American voter got stupid and made things worse.  Looking forward I'm concerned about the possibility that the American voter would get even stupider and make things even worser.

We already have tariffs on imports from China. The issue is whether they are high enough. Stay focused.

Who’s saying a word about hurting China.

What I am concerned about, is we’re not helping America.

BRING BACK AMERICAN FACTORIES.

BRING BACK AMERICAN FACTORIES.

If only there were something we could do to encourage that.

Cringing Negativism Network post 5 "...retaliate against the tariffs these Communist butt holes put on on exports to China..."

Cringing Negativism Network post 28 "Who’s saying a word about hurting China..."

This is getting hard to follow because talk about wreaking vengeance upon "butt holes" usually means doing something hurtful. ,

What I am concerned about, is we’re not helping America.

Again not making sense.  We understand you want a import tax rate hike.   Raising American tax rates means making American taxpayers less wealthy and it also means less revenue will result in either more debt or deeper defense cuts.  If that isn't harm to America it'll sure do until real harm comes along.
