Obama Gets Final Vote Needed to Protect Iran Deal

Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) has given President Obama the final vote necessary to secure victory for his controversial nuclear agreement with Iran. From the AP:

Senate Democrats have rallied the 34 votes they need to keep the Iran nuclear deal alive in Congress, handing President Barack Obama a major foreign policy victory.

Sen. Barbara Mikulski of Maryland became the crucial 34th vote Wednesday morning, declaring the agreement is the best way to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions.

The Obama administration may have had a touch of nervousness in the past few weeks, as a couple of notable Senate Democrats brutally rejected the deal and others were still on the fence. They have also faced continual pressure from Republicans, who plan to vote on a disapproval resolution. Now, however, with 34 votes safely in his pocket, Obama has everything he needs to veto it.

If our Congress had any guts, they would cut funding to the government and shut it down until the Iran deal was rescinded.

They would also strip all funding for this to be implemented in the future.

Treaties require 2/3rds concurrence by the Senate.

And what is to say that Obama would honor a bill that prohibits him from doing the Iran deal anyway, even if his veto was overridden?

Mikulski is retiring. From the Bluest state in the country. There’s no downside to her voting for it.

But she’s the deciding vote? I wonder what sort of payoff she was able to hold out for ...

Well, he’s a rat, did you expect anything different? To be honest I am really surprised that Schumer and Menendez voted against it

I wonder what the Iranians are going buy with the 150 billion O is sending them? I think 150 billion dollars makes the USA the world largest sponsor of terrorism.

[[Can I ask a stupid question?

Is this Iran “deal” legally binding, since they have gone around the constitutional requirement that a “treaty” be approved by 2/3 of the Senate??]]

Not a stupid question but rather one EVERY American should be asking, and one that every American should be asking our senators

[[In this case, we have a “deal”, not a “treaty”, and in this “deal”, they engineering things so that 1/3 plus 1 vote in Congress will sustain a presidential veto of Congressional disapproval, rather than following the Constitution, which would require a 2/3 affirmative vote of the Senate.]]

And the GOP sit there with their thumbs up their butts doing NOTHING about this VIOLATION of the law

[[My stupid question is whether this “deal” is really legally binding as a “treaty” would be, since they have chosen to go outside the legal framework of a treaty???]]

EVERY GOP candidate SHOULD put Iran on notice right NOW stating that this idiotic agreement entered into by an inept incompetent president who feels he is above the law, is a NON binding act and that as soon as a republican becomes president, the deal is off and sanctions WILL return

[[I’m confused, I heard something like the US Senate could still block it with the votes.]]

Even if true- there aren’t enough CONSERVATIVES to block it

[[Delaware Sen. Coons is going to vote for it even though he has grave reservations about it.]]

That is because they have all either been threatened OR given sweetheart deals they couldn’t refuse to vote for it

They won’t because the government will cut off funding to their states- all who voted to shut the iran deal down- Make no mistake, our government IS run by a system of blackmail

[[To be honest I am really surprised that Schumer ... voted for it]]

Are you serious? This country is run by evil idiots- He knows damn well this WILL endanger Israel- and that was his main objection, but he turns around and votes for it?

And still the Jewish community votes for him?

We as a country have lost our way!
